One detail I see seldom mentioned is the fact that 3dwi.scr itself is actually a terrible screensaver, having elements that seemingly don't move or change for up to hours at a time, most notable of which is the island itself; the island would burn into your monitor. Feel like there could be an analogy there for how the island has been burned into the minds of so many different people, or how it's impossible to escape from for people like Grace and Amber.

I think the 'my angelic mommy' comment and Grace's signature message about just being a kid are her actual words, not an addition by Pat. Sounds like the sarcastic anger of someone who's trying to say something but also aware of the need to fly under the radar. Saying her mom is a perfect angel and even adding a disqualifier to everything she says, like she's asking you not to take her seriously. Reads like she's pissed off but trying not to invite Pat's attention/wrath. Especially if she's expected to treat her like a parent 😬

40:00 could be a reference to the cliche "walked into a wall" lie given by abusers

This might be a stretch, but in a way, Grace faces the same direction as the viewer does.

I thought your observation that goodkid's detention for dress code violations is evidence for her probably being a girl was really savvy honestly and its a detail that makes me appreciate Domineco's work a bit more than I already did

I feel like there are some valid comparisons that can be drawn between this series and toxic family blog channels. Especially in the way pat runs their blog, trying to get eyes on the screen saver, yet when others look in, they see abuse and mistreatment of the children. Yet pat never sees it in what they did, and also moderates what's basically the comment section to only fit their own narrative.

i find the phrase "be cool and things will be shown to you" really interesting when referring to something like abuse because it could go either way. either you're "being cool" towards the victim (supporting them, letting them be vulnerable) and they in turn open up to you more... or you're "being cool" with the abuse itself, like letting little things and warning signs slide, in which case the abuser will become more comfortable with abusing their victims in front of you. it's a really sad reality, but when you decide to do nothing towards abuse that you're seeing because you're scared to upset the status quo, then the abuser will realize that you're not a threat. you're not going to do anything to stop them.

This is probably going to make me sound like I’m completely off my rocker, but I wonder if Grace saw Amber’s body as it decomposed. The stages of Cutilacunae sound like a kid’s misinterpretation of decomposition. Redness could refer to livor mortis which usually occurs hours after death. Skin slippage is also a normal part of the decomposition process. I could go on but that would get kind of graphic and I think I made my point.

It’s ironic when the actual Screensaver supposedly to run changing different images continuously to prevent CRT burn-in, the 3dwiscr is just showing the same image of Island continuously.

If I had a nickel for every dead kid stuck in tech of some form in an internet horror project, I’d have a Scrooge mcduck style coin pool by this point.

Excited for the 15 hour Petscop vid 😂

I don’t see most of the knowledgeable users’ “obsession” with Amber as something explicitly paranormal. I read that more as “the only character who is not complicit in the terrible events of the island is the victim, so she is the only reasonable choice for my favorite character.”

With Pat saying she has two daughters despite Amber being dead, it reminds me of some of the lyrics for Our Word from 36 Questions:

"Our daughter, Judith?
No, she moved to Austin
She's very happy there, or so we hear
She's always been so goddamned independent
The years go by and now we barely see her"

It's part of her denial about Amber's death. She refuses to acknowledge it, especially her role in killing her, but the problem is people KNOW she doesn't have just one child. When people ask about where Amber is she probably brushes them off like "oh she's probably at home, doing nothing like usual," or telling people she was such a problem child that she sent her away to another family member's house. If she could, she'd fully pretend Amber never existed, but the problem is that Amber wasn't an only child, Holland is still alive, as well as Grace. They serve as witnesses to Pat's crimes and reminders of what she's done to Amber, and she can only downplay everything she did so much even if those two never come out about the abuse. She's trying to plant the idea that she's a good mom with two very alive children so she can refute any future claims of death and abuse later down the line.

I think the reason that Pat doesn't see the abuse isn't because Amber's not trying to communicate to her. Abuse victims often try to communicate with their abusers, to make them understand what's being done to them. The problem is that Pat, like any other abuser, just fails to notice or doesn't intend to acknowledge every abusive thing she's done.

7:57 - You might find her aggressive looking because of how her hair is modeled. Her bangs create the illustration of a furrowed brow.

The ending with the message from “Thomas” makes me think that this whole thing, all the websites and the entire screensaver itself, is all in Amber’s imagination. What we’re seeing is what an abused and traumatized kid imagines as an escape. Maybe if her story were told through this screensaver, if people got obsessed with it and started theorizing about it, they’d come to realize what’s going on with her. They’d care. She’d be everyone’s favorite character, and everyone would see right through her mom Pat. Grace, who ignored her suffering, would appear and finally acknowledge how she ignored poor Amber. But at the end, the message from Thomas is her breaking the illusion. Giving up on the dream, and realizing none of it will ever happen. There is no magic haunted screensaver that people are obsessed with, which is what I think the bouncing balls at the end symbolizes, because it’s the real screensaver, and maybe the red balls of the degenerated Ambers sort of represent the parts of her that have “died” over the years that she’s still trying to hold onto, her innocence, her hope that someone will save her, her hope that she can find love and compassion, and the end of her dumping them in the ocean is her fully giving up.

Only thing I feel is kind of a stretch is the idea that Amber is supernaturally compelling people to sympathize with her. It's pretty clear to me that all the users on the discovery page are heavily invested in the narrative of 3dwi, and thus what they perceive is the story of a little girl being physically and mentally abused, surrounded by people either ignorant to or complicit in her abuse. If you spent hours watching a story like that unfold and then someone asked you who your favorite character was, what do you think you would say?

Other than that, I really like this interpretation. Good stuff.

22:00 i interpreted this part differently. i think it's because the users are seeing amber get abused and sympathize with her the most, but they're "not supposed to talk about those topics" to "keep the forum clean" so they can't exactly say the reason why. it also explains the other person saying the original poster "doesn't know better", like they're not aware of the abuse happening to amber.

i think holland coming out and possibly throwing something into the water, especially if it's a toy, could be a metaphor for losing her innocence/ignorance. she may have done her best to ignore amber's abuse before, but now that amber told her, she can't un-know it. amber looks for the object, maybe regretting that she's "responsible" for holland's new awareness, or maybe she wishes she'd had the opportunity to have that "toy" in the first place (both literally and metaphorically, since i feel like pat might take or break amber's stuff as a punishment/alternate form of abuse).
when holland walks into that wall, my take is that she might be berating herself for her perceived powerlessness (ie, banging her head against the wall). or, she might be trying to ignore it again- she's right next to the back of the house where pat often abuses amber, but she has her head against the wall doing her best not to see that part of the island. she's also walking in place, maybe trying to simulate normalcy. depends on how you want to characterize her, i think.

I didn’t ever interpret it as paranormal or that there were ghosts in the game. I saw it more as how people turn a blind eye to abuse and how the viewer cannot do anything to stop it.
