Daenerys choices to start looking out for herself is what many women in her position would have done to escape the continued escalating abuse. He was responsible for his own behavior, not Daenerys. She never had control over HIS life, he did over hers. Good for her for finding a way to be able to have some freedom for independent thought, choices on how she wanted to live. She would have been left there when he'd left for Westeros, anyway.
He constantly let the Dothraki know that they were inferior, and never took a moment of his time to learn anything about them but the fact that they were excellent war tribes.
These empty headed editorials on how women are to blame for all the choices some slaver made who escaped him, and she was his slave, are getting so sad. Even if she did manipulate the situation, he could have , at any time, had Jorah translate and have a conversation with Drogo, but he thought he was beneath him. Threatening to end his offspring was totally his own decision.
People like ylu, look at these shows, and dig for symbolism to use against women because you either nave felt emasculated by one or just think they should be subservient.

You can't just watch this scene and form an opinion. You have to take Dani's journey so far as a whole in order to understand her.

You can tell Viserys has taken his anger out on Danerys, probably for as long as she can remember, so the transition to life with Khal Drogo isn't that different - except HE looks at her with appreciation. Then, her servant teaches her how to make love to her husband, and things really change. She knows she's loved and finds the courage to do things like eat a raw horse heart without puking.

The incident that raises Dani's ire is when Viserys abuses her servant. That's when SHE draws blood by striking her brother with the belt, then threatens him to never raise a hand to her again. Later on, when she's talking to Jorah, Danerys finally understands that Viserys will never become king and take her back to the only place she knows to call home, and the doubts about him being "The Dragon" he's always claimed to be set in.

That evening in the tent, Dani is calm because she knows Drogo will kill Viserys before he can hurt her. You can see her face harden into anger when he threatens her baby, though. While her brother is screaming and dying, Dani is reacting like many abused women do when their abuser is given justice... a blank calmness. Then she says what she does because she knows from all the old stories that fire can't hurt a dragon. Which later leads her to walk into Drogo's funeral pyre - to either die with the man she loved or prove that she IS a dragon.

So no, I don't think it was a calculated move by Danerys to get her brother killed, but I do think she felt she had warned him, so he deserved what he got.

I hate to break it to you, but no one who was paying attention to that scene thought that Dani was an innocent, scared little girl at that point. She had already realized her brother was a poseur and unworthy to call himself a Dragon. She knew that she WAS worthy. She knew her husband adored her and her brother couldn’t control her any more. Her eyes were open, and she was a woman grown.

Don't forget the conversation she has with Jorah. Jorah tells her that Viserys could't sweep the 7 kingdoms with 10 thousand brooms much less with 10thousand Dothraki. Daenerys then ask Jorah what if the right person were to go to westeros with the Dothraki? At this point Daernerys is already thinking about getting rid of Viserys so she can rule.

This was the scene that for me presented a question of what kind of foreshadowing might be happening with her character, how much of her blank reaction to the death of her brother was a temporary abruption from reality brought about by accumulated trauma, and how much was a calculated revenge. Her face conveyed an enigmatic mixture of both.

However, it was not long after that all doubt about her trajectory was shattered by the Qarth vault scene, which to me confirmed that this was not merely a traumatized young woman, but a ruthless killer hungering for absolute power. I found hers to be one of the most terrifying character arcs in the entire series, one having its logical end in the incineration of King’s Landing.

ROFL ANYONE who thinks Daenerys was scared is a fool . She was not scared at all , she was FED UP ! She basically looked at Khal Drogo and silently said get rid of him . At that point she hated her brother . Anyone who thinks otherwise hasn't paid any sort of attention to any of the books or show.

While I understand Denerys hate for her brother....
But the pure emotionless expression for such a gruesome death...is quite strange....
And also.... viserys wasn't always bad to her as she said.....he changed for the worse as he grew...
But still it was strange that emotionless expression

He was a prick,no argument there but I was curious about the supposed deal he had with Drogo. Did Drogo ever intend on keeping his end of the bargain or was the deal just an outright lie?

Honestly if she had not led him to his death he'd have gotten her killed. He also still probably would have wandered to his own death wether shed ever even exsisted or not.

Was Dani smart, ruthless and calculating? Absolutely. But the show and books both made it very clear that there would be absolutely nothing she could do that Viserys wouldn’t find a way to take issue with. She offers him clothing and it’s an insult. If she hadn’t offered him anything then she would have been ungrateful and ignoring her “rightful king”. She also offered him the clothes after he had been constantly bitching about how miserable he was in the heat. She offers for him to join her and her Khalasar for the feast and she’s insulting him. If she hadn’t then she would have been snubbing him. She didn’t try to make him the star of the show as a “King” in Vaes Dothrak because people had told her the rules and she actually listened. She is not a passive character but Viserys wasn’t some sort of victim of hers. He was told the rules over and over and over again. Multiple characters had tried to reason with him over and over and over again. I’m sorry but his fate is not her fault. If it hadn’t been this particular incident, it would have been something else as he continued to escalate his behaviour amongst a violent people who were clearly over his shit—a people he sought out, not her, btw. That was only a matter of time and no, that’s not because of his victim “scheming” against him.
