“No Child Left Behind” my ass. Our newest generation of children is completely screwed if they can’t write, read, spell, or even speak properly.

Edit: Good LORD, this is the most likes and comments I’ve gotten on any of my comments

Felt bad for the first teacher, he really wanted them to learn before they go to college. 😢

a 12th grader not being able to comprehand 2 paragraphs while people on ao3 who are probably younger than them have been making fanfics for years is crazy 😭😭

As a nurse, the abolition of phonics horrifies me. There are so many look alike/sound alike medications that do different things and it’s crazy to think that the next generation might give me lorazepam instead of loratadine because it starts with the same 4 letters

We are living in the prequel to Fahrenheit 451. This is how it starts. Not governments banning books but a wave of people who can't read, feel bad they can't read, and then they get rid of reading altogether.

Being a teenager who can actually read and think for themselves in a school that doesn't want us to succeed is suffocating.  No Child Left Behind killed the education system and turned it into absolute chaos.

I felt so bad for the first teacher.  I want to give him a hug.

I can just imagine the higher-ups coming in and being like
“hey, so we noticed that your students have been testing really well on reading”

and the teacher being like “I’m glad you brought this up! Yeah, I’ve actually been teaching them using the older methods that were used just a few years ago, and it’s really helping them grasp the concepts better and understand sentences and paragraphs more deeply. I was thinking of bringing this up to the board so that maybe we could-“

“you’re fired”.

“What?”

“Yeah, so the kids aren’t supposed to be able to read. You’re fired”

My dad (mid-50s) was never taught phonics as a kid because his parents were traveling preachers and to this very day it affects his ability to spell. He's a very intelligent man but that was a missing core building block of his developmental education. To not allow teachers to teach is like we're ripping pages straight from Fahrenheit 451. Knowledge is an extremely powerful tool, and banning it is both poetic and deeply disturbing. I'm terrified for these children.

The kid who flipped desks in my kindergarten class grew up to graduate and go to trade school and from what i saw be a pretty decent human being because he had CONSEQUENCES

And people have the nerve to say “not everything is political” they want us to be stupid so we keep falling for their propaganda.

"No child left behind" -> "Every child left behind"

teachers not being allowed to teach is insane , what are we doing🥀🥀

No child left behind = All children equally behind

I am not a conspiracy theorist, and I have ZERO evidence for this. Still, I remember thinking about this topic and randomly thinking, "What if all of this is deliberate so kids will only have the option of joining the military because the military is desperate for more soldiers?" and then I realized it almost made sense. I didn't know how to feel about it. Still, the more likely explanation is that No Child Left Behind was a complete flop.

This is Idiocracy, they're manufacturing Idiocracy for these students by not letting the teachers do their jobs.

That first guy needs a hug. My heart goes out to him...

Parents are too busy overconsuming for tik tok attention, making rants on tik tok over anything, and going to stores and restaurants and demanding to speak with the manager over minor issues. To the parents the children are not their responsibility

So, I have autism, and as a 19 year old high school graduate who is valedictorian. I am terrified for these kids!
