Wow. I cant imagine the fear and helplessness felt by the gentleman in the first story/video. To have that many people pass you by in your moment of greatest need. To ignore something so obviously wrong. That makes me more fearful than an escalator malfunction. Human apathy has lead to so many preventable deaths. Situations any of us may one day be in, where we would have expect help from our fellow man. My heart breaks for him and his loved ones. What a senseless and preventable tragedy.

It isn't surprising that people don't know about the emergency stop button. What is tragic is that all those people looked at him and casually walked away, never calling for help.

My jaw is on the floor. This is beyond "bystander effect" type shit this is ghastly. I have no words. I mean, what a cruel and horrific way to pass. Rip to him and I'm so sorry for his family and friends. Love from des moines, ia.

Story #1. WTF is wrong with people. Me and my wife just went over all the times I jumped in to help people. 2 house fires, over a dozen car accidents and 4 DV situations. When you see someone that needs help you should just naturally run toward the situation. I just don't get it. The people who walked by without helping should be shamed. Put their pictures on TV. Watching those people walk by had my blood boiling.

I'll never forget the first time I heard the story of the girl throwing beached starfish back into the sea. She was asked why bother, there were so many. And the reply was much like you said. Maybe the effort looks like nothing in the grand scheme. But to that one life it's everything.

This shit of "not getting involved" to help someone is TOTAL BULLSHIT. I've watched in China where people do absolutely nothing, but that's NOT been my experience here in the US accept for the last 15 to 20 years. The poor Ukrainian girl minding her own business, stabbed in the neck, crying, desperately needing help, and several individuals simply stare, walk by talking shit, or pulling out their phones to make videos, but offer absolutely zero help. I was ashamed watching my fellow Americans piss poor behavior. It was disgusting and it's wasn't any kind of situation whereby people were afraid to get involved for fear they might be stabbed by this individual. I can understand that to a degree, but he stabbed her fast, then quickly got out of there and for minutes people walk by doing absolutely nothing to help her or at the very least, perhaps offer some comfort to this innocent dying young girl. I wish these individuals could've been prosecuted. The only effort made by any of these people during the first 5 minutes was to help themselves by pulling out their phones to make videos. These escalators have emergency stops on both ends. All it would've taken was a push of the emergency stop, but instead, these people stand around and watch a guy lose his life. Unfuckenbelievable.

The way we treat each other is only getting worse😢

First story brought me to tears. I'm literally standing here trying to do dishes, and I'm sobbing. That poor man and his poor babies who dont have a dad anymore. My heart is with his family. What a horrible story. People need to be better.

I had no idea the escalator has an emergency stop button ( I'm not in area where there is any)   Platforms such as this one Not only shows the tragedy it also helps many of us learn from prior mistakes....

Steven's story makes me so sad 😞  the sheer number of people who just walked on by.... maybe it's just because I'm Canadian but how do you see someone on the ground and not ask if they're ok?????
