Redlettermedia may inadvertently be responsible for Disney hiring JJ Abrams for the force awakens and we all know how that eventually turned out his involvement in that trilogy, if your base is weak the rest will fall like a bad building foundation.. We don't know this for sure, but it is definately a possibility.

"Gulf of Tarkin incident"

Well said! While I don't think RLM is bad per se, they hold a good deal of the blame for putting Star Wars and the fandom where it is now and need to be called out on it- I mean they did a video featuring the director of The People Vs. George Lucas.

As a lifelong fan of the Star Wars prequel trilogy and longtime hater of the garbage that RLM has put out to spread the hatred how did George Lucas and his films, I'm glad that videos like this are finally starting to exist to push back against RLM and their propaganda.

I 110 % agree that their videos helped to ruin star wars. They may not have been responsible for actually filming the sequel trilogy and the sale of Lucasgilm to Disney, but they certainly were responsible for the mindset that created them in the first place.

I may have to edit this if it gets addressed later, but I'm noticing serious gaps in how Plinkett's arguments are presented.

Around 8:15, Plinkett isn't simply asking, 'Why not steal the part?', he's pointing out that Qui Gon is already willing to steal by mind-controlling Watto, cheating at a game of chance, etc, so taking the part by overt burglary isn't any different.

At 12:00, it's not simply that the fights are too choreographed, it's that they don't reflect the emotions of the characters. There's no change in the choreography when Obi Wan loses his mentor, which makes the fighting feel detached from the characterization.

Thank you, thank you. RLM's Star Wars videos are mind-numbingly idiotic. How people hold these video a gospel for SW criticism is just sad. They're more nonsensical nitpicks and failures of understanding context than well organized and articulated analysis.

the main issue I had with the prequel movies is that Anakin isn't a sympathetic character, by then end you are happy that Obi Wan has won and Anakin as lost, the movies would have had a much bigger impact if the audience could sympathize and relate to Anakin.

I'm curious if you're familiar with the term 'Thermian Argument'
The Plinkett Retrospectives don't really reflect  my sense of humor anymore but they introduced me to the idea that internal consistency arguments are never a justification for ineffectiveness in theming, characterization, or tone.
George Lucas always had the opportunity to write a better (or worse) story with the same intent with regards to themes and internal consistency so the specifics of his motivations are ephemeral. They don't matter
I think the prequels are pretty fun fantasy action movies for kids with great music but Stoklasa is right about the blocking being really boring for the talking sequences.

And the worse part, they deflected and couldn't even admitted they caused it all.

Yeah red letter media prequel videos looking back at it wasn’t  really funny and kind of a mess in my opinion

facts. shitting on and being alarmist about franchises is now a million dollar business.

This is a very well made but extremely flawed video. I disagree with almost everything you say but very well done.

I unfortunately question your taste in art.

rlm led a harassment campaign against the prequels and multiple people associated with the project, they're hacks

RLM certainly didn't help Star Wars or online discourse - they kinda opened a Pandoras Box of internet movie essayists.

And now, seeing what Star Wars has become, I'll say that Mike was quite harsh in his reviews of the Prequels; however, I still would not consider them to be good films. They are, to be simplistic, quite boring.

Are they the worst films ever made? No.

Did George deserve to be lambasted for making them? No.

Would I watch them again? No.

And at this point, the only thing that can save Star Wars is a decanonization of all material after 1983 as well as the IP being put into the hands of a team of people that actually have a love for the original trilogy. If they want to recanonize certain parts here and there, fine, but right now... it needs a massive cleanup job.

25 years later A Phantom Menace is still a disappointing follow up to Return of the Jedi

I watched that 7 hour analysis of the phantom menace, and that really helped me appreciate the sequels a lot more, undoing the RLM thought rut

Naaa redlettermedia didn't ruin Star Wars. In the words of Obi wan "You have done that yourself"

grown adults being children... the funny thing about people that dump on RLM is that they never understand when they are being serious and when they are MAKING FUN fo people like you...

I have never been swayed by RLM.
The original trilogy was always fine to me but it's the prequels that grabbed my imagination.

friend... just no.  You can't go against the ultimative analysis on the horror that is the prequels out there.. Their work was spot on. You are making the mistake of arguing against their views by explaining how the things they criticized could make sense in the starwars universe. But that's not the point. There is no star wars universe. These are movies and stories and the prequels are terrible stories told in a terrible way. RLM has no specific hatred for SW, they have love for good stories. They did a very positive review of the first season of the mandalorian, which was the only positive thing that came out of starwars after the OT. You are missing the mark with this.
