The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 is one of the most unique smartphones you can buy in 2026 — but after actually living with it, is the flip-phone experience worth the compromises?

In this in-depth Galaxy Z Flip 8 review, I’m covering everything you need to know about Samsung’s latest flip-style foldable, from the compact design and FlexWindow to performance, cameras, battery life, multitasking, durability, and what it’s actually like using the Flip 8 as an everyday phone.

One of the biggest reasons to buy the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is obviously its form factor. Fold it shut and you have an incredibly compact device with Samsung’s FlexWindow on the outside. Open it up and you’re back to a full-sized smartphone — although that tall and narrow display creates an experience that can feel very different from something like an iPhone Pro Max or a traditional Galaxy flagship.

I also take a closer look at what you can actually DO with the FlexWindow. There are some genuinely useful features here, along with a few limitations that remind you this still isn't meant to completely replace the main display. Yes, you can even run certain apps and games on it… although whether you’d actually want to is another question. 😂

We’ll also talk about performance and multitasking, including split-screen apps and how Samsung’s software takes advantage of the folding display. The Flip 8 feels incredibly quick in everyday use, but the unusual aspect ratio means multitasking doesn't always feel as natural as it does on Samsung's larger foldables.

Then there are the cameras. Beyond normal photos and video, the folding design gives the Flip 8 a pretty awesome trick: you can use the rear cameras for higher-quality selfies while using the FlexWindow as your viewfinder. I’ll show you how that works and discuss the overall camera experience, including the front-facing camera.

Battery life is another BIG part of this review. I’ll tell you what percentage I typically have remaining by the end of the day, how often I've found myself reaching for the charger, and how the smaller form factor affects the overall battery experience.

And of course, we have to talk about durability and that hinge. Folding phones have come a long way, but there are still things you should know before spending this kind of money on one. I’ll share my early experience with the hinge, display, and overall construction — plus one surprisingly painful little downside to snapping this thing shut. 😭

Finally, we'll discuss price and value. At around flagship-phone money, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is competing for your wallet against some seriously capable traditional smartphones — and even Samsung's other foldables. So the real question isn't simply whether the Flip 8 is a good phone.

It's whether the flip-phone experience is worth paying for.
