Making an 'Orphan' prequel more than a decade after the first movie is already an insane idea in the first place, but the fact that they managed to pull it off and have an incredible twist for the audience as well is an achievement

To make the actress for Ester look shorter they basically made the house twice as big in some sets and had the adults wear high platform boots

I kind of like that Esther looks older in this one because if you’ve seen the first one it’s almost like “now you see what she really is” whereas the first one completely disguises it. I mean obviously this is due to the actual time inbetween but it adds to the creepiness in this movie

This prequel really surprised me a lot I think my viewing of the film in theaters without seeing any trailers for the film made it even better for me because I for sure wasn't expecting any of the twists that were in the film.

Okay but that plot twist was INSANE!!! I missed Vera so much in this, but it was still a fun ride haha!

1:46 "hm our most dangerous patient is potentially running around the building, so let's impair our vision by turning off all the lights and make them all blinking red, because logic"

Worth noting for this movie, Isabelle Furhman had some creative control, including providing uncredited rewrites to the script. She killed it.

that moment when you find out esther isn't the most evil one

The height effect for Esther in wide shots was accomplished by using a child actress in costume and shot from behind so you don't see her face. I saw that in some behind-the-scenes photos and video. Isabelle Fuhrman posted photos of herself on set and posing with the two child actresses who took turns doubling for Esther in those shots. They were all three in Esther costumes and looked adorable. Close ups of Esther from the front with the other actors were accomplished by making Isabelle Fuhrman stand lower or the other actors higher on platform most likely.

“She did all that for a tootsie roll” i died laughing and woke up my whole house (at 1 am) the second you said that

Here's a list of very good horror movies:
- Malignant (with an insane twist that blew my mind)
- Come Play (kind of sweet at times, but very creepy)
- Before I Wake (also kind of sweet, but creepy)
. It follows (heavy on suspense)
- The Hole In The Ground (less jumpscares, but more suspense)
- Mama (great jumpscares)
- The Black Phone (less jumpscares, but more creepy and suspenseful)
- 1408 (kind of mindblowing at times, with great jumpscares)
- Friend Request (very heavy jumpscares)
- Unfriend (desktop horror)
- Unfriend 2 (also desktop horror)
- Let Me In (no real jumpscares, but a great and sweet story with very creepy stuff in it)
- The Visit (found footage movie with a great story)

As messed up as Esther was at the Saarne Institute, being trapped in a New England WASP "Our family came across on the Mayflower!" family didn't help.

In Orphan, when Vera is going through her book while "Esther" is taking a shower, Vera sees a picture of a guy who looks exactly like the dad in this movie. Love that easter egg but they did mess up because the family that was killed in the fire (which led to her being an Orphan in the first movie) was a completely different family 😂

The plot twist was great, and the backstory of the glow in the dark paint was really cool, missing Vera in this one but it was just as good as the first one

Walking into this movie I rolled my eyes cause like wha was the point of a prequel we technically knew her backstory on how she got where she was but the moment the mom killed the guy I was gagged I didn’t suspect the son to have killed the real Esther and then covering it up. It made me really root for Esther which was really funny like when she killed the son I was like yeahhhhhh. The best part about the movie was while the original tried to make a little girl into an adult woman this movie had the challenge to make the adult woman into a child so they did lots of practical work to do that by using ramps or having everyone wear platformed boots to make themselves look taller. So by prequel standards this movie was pretty awesome. Also they didn’t use any CGI to de-age the actor for Esther it’s all just practical stuff.

I like this a lot. Yes, it's silly, but they still manage to come up with some fun twists, because we obviously can't have the same one again.
It fully leans in to its camp, which is just wonderful.

They actually didn't use CGI to make Esther's actor to look younger. It was all practical. I liked this film, even though it wasn't as good as the first one.

esther walking through the house as it was burning down was so over the top and unrealistic but i kinda loved it

Oh I rooted for Esther in this one because the mom and brother got what they had coming to them!! They were horrible, so I was team Esther in this movie but not in the other one she was the villain in that one.

In order to make the height difference between Ester and the other characters, she wore platforms off screen most of the time.
They used a lot of practical elements and tricks in this movie, kinda cool!
