I totally get how complicated a relationship can get. I've been there, and although their reasons were certainly different, my parents' marriage was actually a perfect example of what not to do if you want to be a family.
However, as someone who mostly grew up without a father, I'd like to put my experience to use in hopes it can be of help for your own child.

Your son does need a father.
No matter your or his relationship with his mother, no matter your marriage's situation, he needs you.
A father's presence is something that no amount of money, comfort, food, toys, and not even a mother can make up for.

Absence leaves deep scars, and a void in our hearts that nothing and no one will ever be able to fill. In your son's case, no one but you, Samurai.

Take this as a friendly reminder to make sure you express and give love to this little human being you decided to bring into this world.
If you want to give him a chance to become a happy and healthy man, this is your time to act. Please, think about it. 🙏🏻

Maybe the rift is because husband, wife and child are strangers to each other. In England good husbands eat at home with their families, talk about their day, listen to how family members are getting on and support each other. A stay at home wife is contributing to the family budget by being there for the child and saving on childcare costs, as well as keeping house - imagine how much it would cost to pay for a nanny, a cleaner, a cook, a housekeeper.

Imagine the wife made a youtube channel telling her side of the story.

My hubby is not a romantic person but sometimes I realised when I told him I actually wanted something (usually inexpensive and not a need but a want), he listens and will buy it for me.. such acts and the gifts are small but it actually makes me feel love!🥰

I'm originally from Japan but have been living in Europe for many years. After watching several of your videos, I experienced a bit of reverse culture shock. That said, I think your family situation isn’t uncommon in Japan....

Looking back, my father used to have breakfast with us every morning and dinner at home every night — we always ate together unless he came home too late.

I believe family time is essential for conversation, and conversation is key to strengthening bonds and resolving any problems.

Try sharing meals at home with your family — you might find it brings you closer together!

I know every culture are different! But please don’t say your wife is wasting your salary! As long as the two of you are married, you are still responsible for your wife and son! My husband and I are Asian! I cook six days a week and my husband eats with us when he gets off work some times early and some times late! But he still eats at home! And when he has time he will spend time with me and our kids! He handles all the bills while I’d every thing else in the house and the kids things! You two must communicate! Must communicate!

SD:  you raise and point out pertinent relationship issues that your viewers can reflect upon. Questions:  (1) did you, as a Japanese, discuss such issues during your courtship prior to marriage; (2) do you consider your combined earnings as "our money" as in the family money; I respect and appreciate your side of the story; what do you think your wife (and your adult son) would say about your family leadership; (3) would you agree that what you say could be unique to your household or is this a common practice in all Japanese households; (4) by your precept and examples your son is learning from you and his mother -- what are you doing to change the concerns you raise; (5)  is counseling an option for you/in the Japanese culture or that considered a "weakness"?

One of these days, i would really like to see a video with the subject: "How i consume large quantities of sugar and caffeine before bedtime and still fall asleep". Because id love to know how you do it man! It blows my mind! 😃

I don't mean to be critical, but you eat breakfast and dinner out each day, and get snacks on the way home. I would imagine the family funds would be eroded by such practice. Wouldn't it be more economical and kind to your wife and son to go home for dinner. My son is Australian, lives in Japan and is married to a Japanese wife. He works all day, goes home, picks up the children from school. He often cooks the evening meal as well. the times we live in are hard for many. But within a marriage it is vital to pull together to support each other, rather than pull apart. I hope you find your way

Thank you for your video on insight of Japanese culture of household spending as I seen there is no where you said your wife is doing any of what you mention just saying it happens and men do not address it and of course feeling ashame and hopefully one day they will learn to communicate.but it does happen in many cultures with both men and women when it comes to household spending.😊

My Japanese husband handles the finances. But he eats at home 5 days a week as he works from home, but two days a week he has to go into work so he'll eat lunch around there but eats breakfast and dinner here.

You cling to tradition and 'the norm'' while recognising it was rooted in simpler times and is no longer appropriate. So change. Stop allowing the past to be a shackle. If something is making you unhappy, you have the power to stop it. I cannot imagine your current situation is good for anyone in your family.

I live in America and my experiences as the female breadwinner is the same as you.   I think you will be ok.  It is tough, and I would do anything to avoid conflict.  I'm sure you have tried to keep things together and it's hard when the other isn't pulling their weight.   Keep yourself headstrong.   Thank you for keeping it real!
