My heart broke for the community that raised the money for that ancient helmet only to be selfishly out-bided by a private collector. I’m not even from the UK either. Only for it to hide away in their private estate or whatever they dwell in. Not to be seen by the public again. It doesn’t make sense. They knew what they did and couldn’t care less that’s why they are wealthy I suppose.

I like how honest all the people were. Also that they were still wiling to share what they found with all people. I’m over in Kentucky USA I love history 🍺

That mansion just being left to rot reminds me of how Britain is being left to rot

The Portable Antiquities Scheme is the way forward, and i wish more countries would adopt this way of reporting finds, and allow them to be discovered, by Metal Detecting responsible Metal Detecting, because those finds will never all be dug for many years because of funding, and simply rot away in the mean time, particularly shipwrecks.

Great information. Hide or melt what you find in Britain it's the same with shipwreck treasure in Australia a lot gets found but nobody reports it because you lose it. Britain loses 90% of what is found because of this law.

The Roman bronze bust seems more like Septimius Severus even in his coins you can see the similarities in the beard , and to add to the equation Septimius spent several years in England

Number 16, the chess piece, reminds me of what's often attatched to a seal?

And Oregon too!

So fascinating!
How does one date a piece of rock like a hand ax, if there is no organic material with it? It seems like the date is too conjectural for the insistence of the age it received.
