Step back into Wales between 1865 and 1925 through a remarkable collection of rare historical photographs, carefully colourized and brought to life.
These images introduce us to the ordinary people who lived and worked across Wales during a period of enormous change — quarrymen and coal miners, fishermen and farmers, cobblers, carpenters, shopkeepers, road workers, musicians and many others whose lives were rarely recorded beyond photographs such as these.
Many of the original portraits featured in this film were taken by pioneering Welsh photographer John Thomas, whose extraordinary work preserved the faces of Victorian Wales for future generations.
Each photograph has been carefully colourized and gently animated while retaining the character and detail of the original image.

I wish I had known every one of these proud, independent people.
You do a marvelous job of bringing them to life with the utmost respect.
Many of my fathers ancestors came from northern Wales and I love the Welsh side of my heritage.
Excellent video!!!!
I can't express how much I enjoyed it!!!

There was a massive oak dresser in another room. My memories are going back over 60 years ago. I also are very robust and still work at 73. Welsh middle class peasants lived long active lives.
Our extended family were farm contractors and timber contractors Journey men employment. Odd jobs like Hedging. Timber falling. Hay cutting with a sycthe. They would find work and were honest and valued reputation. They liked a drink, singing and telling stories.
