Kamal Saleem says he was recruited into radical Islam as a young boy, trained in a PLO camp, and sent on his first mission into Israel at just seven years old.
In this extraordinary conversation, Kamal takes us inside the world he says shaped his childhood—from poverty and rejection to militant training, carrying weapons into Israel, and eventually recruiting other children himself.
He describes the psychological impact of violence at such a young age, his encounters with Yasser Arafat and other figures in the Middle East, and what he calls “civilization jihad”—an effort he says ultimately brought him to the United States.
But Kamal’s story took an unexpected turn.
After a devastating car accident, the kindness of Christians and his first meaningful encounters with Jewish people began challenging everything he had been taught. Kamal recounts the spiritual crisis and religious experience that ultimately transformed his worldview and led him from hatred of Israel and the Jewish people to openly standing with them.
We also discuss October 7, Hamas, whether Israelis and Palestinians can eventually live peacefully alongside one another, and what Kamal would say today to a Muslim child being taught to hate Jews.
This interview reflects Kamal Saleem’s personal account, experiences, beliefs, and analysis.
