In the video, I talk about not being able to confirm the release month for Itchy & Scratchy in Miniature Golf Madness. Thanks to an internal Acclaim document hosted at https://archive.gamehistory.org/, I now do have the answer.

There's an Acclaim marketing document from October 1994, which goes over the status of each of Acclaim's upcoming titles. It lists the release date for Itchy & Scratchy in Miniature Golf Madness as releasing in November. If they knew in October that the game would be releasing the next month, it's likely that it was finished , approved and potentially already shipped so November 1994 looks to be correct, otherwise they wouldn't list November and it would have been delayed by the end of October if it needed to be pushed back. Case closed (I hope).

Just remembered,  Acclaim's cancelled GBC South Park game, Which was eventually turned into a Mary-Kate and Ashley game,  was originally meant to be an Itchy and Scratchy & Poochy game too at some point.    Unused sprites of the characters are still in the code.

Honestly I think the most pertinent thing about this game is the fact Scratchy is the official winner in one of the... last I checked two times he's ever been the victor not counting the bonus in Wrestling.

It's not the first time - the episode that featured "Burning Down the Mouse" aired in October '93 - but the fact he got another win & it was at most a month and a year after the first is certainly notable for the victory itself. He may not have many wins to his name, but I'm sure someone like Scratchy would appreciate having more than just the one.

If there's one thing in this game's favor, it's that there's a catharsis factor in giving that jerk Itchy what's coming to him while you're playing.  But it's such a niche aspect when you could have just made a regular Simpsons mini golf game.

Been binge watching your retrospective on Simpsons videogames and I must say... genuine props to you for managing to talk have things to say about these dinky Game Boy games for more than like, 3-5 minutes most other people would settle for. Like this game seems so lame and boring yet you manage to talk about it for 30~ minutes and it keeps me engaged the whole time, haha

I think it’s a massive shame that many release dates of video games are undocumented

It seems a lot of 90's platformers enjoyed having maze levels, with a bunch of doors or portals that warp you around. This is just another one to add to that pile. I assume this level type was relatively easy to make compared to others, and was seen as an acceptable way to pad your game when you're rushing to meet the release deadline.

I would like to see a lot of these Simpsons game concepts revisited somehow, whether in official form or fan-made. With more focused theming, I think a Simpsons flavored mini-golf game is actually a great idea.

Whoa, you actually bought a copy! I recall this game and Bart and the Beanstalk being my most expensive acquisitions in the Simpsons game collection, and that was back before COVID pricing surges. But great coverage as always. I guess I came away feeling the same sense that it was too generic in spite of the unique combination of golf + platformer, although I much prefer this Itchy & Scratchy game over the other ones.

I'm just over here vibing to all these Simpsons games videos, and watching your subscriber count get moment. This is all so good, thank you!

7:24-7:27 I won’t lie: I’m impressed by how causally you delivered a set of words as intriguingly uncommon to see together as “miniature golf platformer.”

Regarding the magazine coverage,  monthly American mags and comics in the 90s typically came out 2 months before what was stated on the issue.

This context doesn't really help the Nintendo Power coverage make sense, but for EGM it does help support the November release date.

I owned this as a kid. I somehow never knew you didn’t have to get par??? I thought you had to hit an overall course par even if you failed on the individual holes’ par. And I thought it was impossible bc I couldn’t even get close on ANY of the holes I actually reached, lol. But then again, it never became an issue bc I lost all my lives by hole 3 on each attempt :P

Definitely grateful for that option to turn off the music, at least.

You probably won’t have much to say about the next game. I rented it as a kid and beat it in 30 minutes on my first try. lol

Magazine cover dates - at least in the UK and US, I imagine other countries too - tend to be the date or month they are REMOVED from the shelves. so the January 1995 issues of stuff will be from December 1994. Could still be an accurate November 1994 release if the publisher didn't send out review copies. where this was the case magazines in the UK tended to have arrangements with mail order or import businesses to 'loan' carts, or sometimes would just have to buy one from the shops on release date.

I would argue that the Krusty references in the game are fine in-universe as it's a segment of the Krusty show. If the Simpsons ever went to Tracey Ullman World in one of their shorts (which maybe they did, I've never seen them), it would be very meta, but it wouldn't be out of nowhere and make no sense, especially as Krusty is a celebrity in-universe. I totally agree about Bart and all the other characters, though. Absolutely no reason to have what are essentially random members of the public as Easter eggs in a cartoon without acknowledging it.
