Probably would've been better if it was marketed as being about the forbidden love between man and snake.

@Nershedify 1 year ago

I love how you somehow cover the absurdity of it while also putting the correct blame on the directors and not Rosalie himself. Poor guy, like us, got scammed.

"Carbon fiber"
"Uncrushable"

Hey, I've seen this one! It's a classic!

@vechti34 1 year ago

Yeah we've literally seen cases of anacondas attempting to eat human-sized crocodiles, and... y'know, dying, because they were literally too big.

The premise was always ridiculous. The largest snake cannot open its mouth wide enough to fit around a large grown man’s shoulders. Even if it somehow managed to fit and swallow a whole man, it would be in extreme danger of tearing / bursting open. So how would a snake fit a large grown man who is also wearing heavy and thick armor???

Paul Rosalie also stated in podcasts that the electric eel segment wasn’t real and they only did it cause the producers wanted more drama. Real bummer that this is who he is to most people when in actuality he’s o quite literally on the front lines trying to protect the amazon from illegal logging and gold mining. They do good work

So, the people went into the jungle thinking it was a normal documentary about finding the biggest anaconda, and then the cable big wigs were like “okay but what if we lied?”

It's sad how paul took the blame for something the producers did, from what I've seen in this video, he's a genuine person with a loving passion for wildlife. Hope the best for him and his efforts

Also if they had actually ever intended the 'stunt' to happen... they wouldn't have chosen someone of that large of a stature. Instead of looking for a bigger snake, they would have just looked for a smaller person.

@AnarchySammy0510 1 year ago

How would they even do this in such a way that the snake also survives? Like, how would they get him out without killing the snake?

So I searched the wikipedia page for Paul Rosolie and the notes of this episode states and I quote "Wildlife filmmaker Paul Rosolie uses a custom-built snake-proof suit to enter the belly of an anaconda but essentially got an aggressive hug."

This is not the first time I've seen someone trying to force an anaconda to eat them. There was a late night talk show where some guy was literally wrapping a terrified anaconda around him as it desperately tried to escape backstage. Anacondas really don't want to eat you.

Paul rosalie was so mad about this. Discovery essentially forced him to do this holding funding for rainforest conservation and a documentary deal over his head in return for the stunt. Nearly ruined his life and ambitions but thankfully he has done a lot of good for the rainforest converting loggers into workers on the nature reservation.

Is it weird that I also feel bad for that poor snake that was supposed to eat him? It's pretty obvious that it wasn't super interested in the guy, and probably only started wrapping around him because it thought he was attacking it. Reptiles have slower metabolisms, so they conserve energy by staying still as much as they possibly can. Forcing a snake that big to "kill" and "eat" something when it doesn't want to would just make it exhausted and stressed out.
