The final scene of blower hat guy was honestly a sad send off to such a comedic villain:

After everything he’s done, lewis and wilbur were ready to take him in the family but then he disappeared.

We see him then hiding from them not to plan his next scheme but because he doesn’t feel worthy of their acception. Then he just stares in the heroes direction for a second  and then just walking away ashamed, with no intentions of revenge anymore.

Two approaches to failure.

Goob: I lost a little league baseball game? Give up on life and seek revenge on an orphan boy.

Wilbur: I left the garage unlocked, and someone stole the time machine with plans to destroy my father's livelihood, meaning I won't be born? Eh? Keep moving forward!

I don’t necessarily know if I’m the first to have this thought, but I came to a realization: the reason why the Bowler Hat Guy dresses the way he does could be that since Goob never really grew out of his childish ways, his outfit as the Bowler Hat Guy could be seen as how he knows a villain/bad guy should dress

There is also a big difference still between Doof and Bowl because Doof became a villain... because well he became a villain. There isnt much more about it. He isnt even a bad villain. And the focus being on "bad". This is basically at this stage just a hobby for him. He doesnt want to actually destroy things. Hes a dad who wants to have his family love him. With a job that... honestly could work out better but hey he is successful enough at it to the point of his "co-workers" only existing because he exists.

Meanwhile Bowl is just a villain because he was given no other choice... by himself. Depression lead to isolation and then to demonization of who he was... by himself as well. Its why when he is defeated it kind of breaks my heart that he just... leaves. With no goal ahead like before. Just uncertainty. He was just an insecure boy who ended up being manipulated by someone, not smarter, but more cunning than him. Who understood very well that he was nothing but a pawn who just needed a little bit of Faith in himself. Manipulation of the weak at its finest. To this day, I dont really see him as the villain of the story. Doris far more so. Not because he didnt do bad. But because at the end he is just... a boy stuck in the past.

Bowler hat guy’s stupidity makes him a fun foil to Lewis:

Lewis is a kid that’s a genius and bowler hat guy is a adult that’s an idiot

It's important to realize that Goobian was not a villain, he never was, to begin with—he was an antagonist who was being manipulated by the real villain.

Fun with time paradoxes!

Lewis learns to "keep moving forward" despite failure from his future family. He goes on to have this family because he decides to keep moving forward with his inventions.

Bowler Hat Guy tells his child self not to let it go, but let his hate fester. Thus, Goob takes it to heart and becomes Bowler Hat Guy.

Time travel logic is sketchy. But here, I see this as showing how you are in control of your own destiny. You will definitely fail, but it's all about how you respond to it.

This is also why i love villians like commander peepers and lord hater from wander over yonder, while lord hater is strong and powerful and cartoonishly evil, hes also immature, childish and a big buffoon, peepers isnt strong physically but hes intelligent, competent and gets things done and acts like the dad for hater when hes having a childish temper tantrum.

NGL, I didn't know the voice actor was the director. I always thought he was voiced by Jim Carrey or something.

Slight tangent, this movie's lesson that was qouted by Disney himself was to "keep moving forward". To find new discoveries and create possibilities for the future in general. This makes the nuclear family ascetic design that you would see in 1950-70s "The World of Tomorrow" posters a fitting choice. Which made it ironic that for the past decade and a half they were trying to reanimate the corpses (no pun intended) of their most commercially successful films for nostalgia bait.

Goob does end up being a professional baseball player in the good timeline and having his own baseball card

Edit: The baseball card I mentioned is not official but fan art but you can imagine it to be so

Dude has negative int and charisma modifiers but a high luck stat.

dude you're such a underrated youtuber, i love your videos

Interestingly, the same Buddy/Syndrome of being obsessed with revenge has achieved more than Goob/Bowler Hat Guy.

4:20 MoistCritikal jumpscare lmao

Doris chose Goob, not because of his intelligence, but because of his ability to be manipulated by her.

This movie in general is so underrated. The entire feeling of it is just amazing. I love how well it paces itself, and how it presents every emotional moment as one to respect. Like not telling Goob he's wrong for feeling the way he does, but making sure they know he can still change how it ends. Giving him the chance to change young-him without feeling like he had to, just giving him the catharsis of it all.
I love it so much

I absolutely love this guy! Best villain ever! I really thought he was voiced by Jim Carey until I was older. He almost got his own short film that detailed what happened to him after the movie (for some reason he wasn’t erased from the timeline). But I do wish they stuck with the deleted ending where Bowler hat guy wakes himself up instead of Lewis, he never realizes Doris was using him, and he even got to thank Lewis.

This is such an underrated gem of a movie

"Hey, Goob! Cool binder!"
"Hey, Goob! Wanna come over to my house for dinner?"

"They alllll hated me."
This is one of the most hilarious moments I've ever seen in cinema history.
