Its refreshing to have an actual dark game that dosent treat the audience like special children, wish more new games would have some balls and not walk the line of safety

Short answer: Yes
For 2 reasons: 1) the dark topics are what makes it different, otherwise it would be a generic RPG maker game and 2) if you present your game as dark but don't show anything dark you show people you are a  poser.

Fear and Hunger is about as dark as Berserk. Both need to be as dark as authors decided, Miura and Miro had ideas for dark stuff to not just be cheap shock. First game had jarring scenes, but Termina is fairly reasonable with execution. Termina's horror feel more like Silent Hill than Berserk to me, for the better, constant graphic things thrown at face makes people desensitised to it.

Also Francois going "kneel before me" and chopping off legs would fit better with whole "domination" thing, ngl. By point of reaching him player expects it to turn into something sexual, and if it doesn't, it's a surprise, and it would flesh out lore a bit more.

A cool coin flip attack that I can think of for François instead of what we got is if his "Domination" means he possesses and enslaves you, then makes you kill your party members with no chance for a cure.
That would've been both cool and terrifying.

Yooo if u havent u have to play gloomwood it has a perfect dark victorian atmosphere and the artstyle is gorgeous imo

Yes, funger takes topics that other dark fantasy stories only kind of tease or at worst (*cough* Casca *cough*) exploit and bring them to the horrifying forefront. I love the game for this. Unlike berserk the sexual violence is just that, violence, its not drawn to be titillation or really becomes noise, it stays with you and that's more than what can be said about many other dark fantasies attempt at similar things. The gods, even the arguably nice ones like sylvian, are horrifying and uncaring eldritch beings that are far closer to actual paganism or older polytheistic religions. Funger is very grounded in its darkness and it either serves the plot, the mechanics its trying to show you or the characters almost always.

many people who are unfazed by outrageous violence will still be viscerally uncomfortable at the idea of being used as a waifu pillow. if the only reaction you get from a player is "heh, brutal" how will they ever fear the dungeon?

Most of the "inappropriate" stuff important to the lore player understanding of the game. Both guards and night lurches apperance and fact that they can rape player character show how God of the depth influence affect both midn and the body of a person who fell under it, marriage and bunny masks show how Sylvian see love very different from us humans, wolf masks and all Gro-Goroth stuff show how he wiew the world. And player need understand older gods in order to understand all new and ascended gods plot.

I'm usually not the biggest fan of games that use a lot of sexual violence in their story (regardless of whether or not in makes sense in universe) because it nearly always feels like it's only being aimed at women and is just an excuse to do so. I know fanservice is a thing and sex sells...but sometimes it feels like that's all some "dark fantasy" stories focus on, and it gets real old real fast.

Fear and Hunger does not give a damn who you are, everyone gets the chance to suffer from the darkness and violence, so it feels like the world is truly dark and dangerous to everyone who steps foot inside. But also, anyone can overcome the trials thrown at them, with enough grit and determination (and maybe a little bit of luck).

Fear and Hunger's moments of dark horror and depravity feel justified to me, and it's one of the darkest games that I actually enjoy playing, even with it's heavier themes.
