Of the native fish, Loch Lomond lamprey (I believe river lamprey), I caught some electrofishing with the FSBI and Uni of Glasgow under license. Just super cool given entirely freshwater :)

The Ouse swordfish was pulled out of the river at King's Lynn by Chuck Smith of West Lynn ! Should hopefully be in the Lynn News and Advertiser archives !

The swordfish, as you can see by the size of its eyes, is a deep water feeder and although present is unlikely to be caught on rod and line whilst shark or tuna fishing. They used to catch them off Sesimbra in Portugal and it involved fishing a live bait at huge depth at night.

Thank you very much for sharing!!😊❤

Really interesting, subscribed

I've seen one caught on a squid deep dropped for swordfish (NZ or AU if memory serves), and there's a blog post from Cape Town where an angler caught one on fly that imitated a jellyfish (it was a milkfish algae fly actually). Might be cool to include as potential confirmation cases when you expand this series internationally? :)

Loving this little series. Truly fascinating

what a great video - many thanks

3:20 looks more like a trout to me, than a salmon

The second fish is definitely just an older brown trout

This year there were loads on Mola mola along the south coast- I saw one off Chesil beach and another from a boat from Portland; there were also ones seen in Weymouth harbour and West Bay harbour. I once talked to someone who was an aquarium curator in California and they used to feed Mola on hot dog sausages,

I was on a boat going around the Galapagos islands, one night I thought I put a trace on with a dead bait. There was a flash of light from the algy bioluminescence (I've seen that on the Nene) and a sword fish turned at the end of my rod without a quiver of the tip, when I reeled it in there wasn't any terminal tackle. So unless as you say they are being targeted it's unlikely anyone but a tope fisherman would land them

There was a swordfish in the firth of forth in Scotland last summer 2025, there's vids of it on Facebook, probably on here too.

Really enjoyable thanks

Great vid as always dude 👍 I've fished with a few arses, I've never caught an arse fish 🤷‍♂️

White sturgeon are certainly sold for garden ponds in the UK so it is a possibility.

Hi thanks for the video, I didn't know that salmon could hybridise crazy. I have personally caught a sunfish on rod and line. I was drifting in my sailing boat in the bay of Biscay near Galicia. It was on a small metal jig that was drifting 50m under the boat.

3:40 looks like an out of condition dollaghan trout.

There is (or used be) a very big sturgeon in Hereford museum not caught in the nearby Wye, but either the Severn or Towy, I can’t remember which,

Hi. Loved the video. I seen sun fish at Newquay Cornwall and I got it caught in my line. Luckily it got untangled as it was about 30lbs.
