Imagine anytime you had a plumber in your house they take a copy of your house key in case "the customer needs pipe support in the future"

"where was this router built?". "North Korea.  What could go wrong?"

If the router doesn't support being re-flashed with OpenWRT or DD-WRT I am not interested.

A debug tool is obviously named, precisely not to forget removing it when delivering to production.
Masquerading its presence is highly doubious at best.

I love openWRT, but I will NEVER trust a vendor's install of it.

I would rather a vendor make a compatible router and then sell it with no firmware flashed on it.

Kinda weird hearing openwrt pronounced like that, in my mind I just pronounce it as open W R T.

Mikrotik published an urgent security update. They didn’t disclose the exact nature of the vulnerability yet, but when they do, I want to see your take on it.

Alright i've heard enough. Time to bust out the Linksys WRT54G

I'd argue that Amazon used to be a reputable place to buy things but has been eroding that over the last decade.

Some companies actually do care about security but they are few and far between these days.  I worked for a couple doing Docsis compliance testing and security analysis of new firmware builds for routers etc before they were deployed.  Having a router call home is just unreal, you can bet that router is rebranded for multiple companies to sell.

While a router is directly able to accept nefarious communications, anything you buy that's connected to the internet, through your router or not, can be malicious. Maybe it just looks for updates once a day, and when it does it can download a malware payload.

Please inspect smart home devices, like smart switches or sensors for home automation. They have various attacking points, from Wi-Fi to Bluetooth and other communication protocols. Like Shelly devices or other popular brands

sounds like a good candidate to install a fresh open-wrt and start over again :-)

To be honest, I Tenda avoid random brand routers. I see them and make them disappear, ZBTi-bobbidi-boo!

It makes sense why they didn’t try too hard. Usually, when you see a process you don't know, you generally Google it first. This will come up as something normal as you will google the name and you just move on

Ah, is always the tenda,
