German here. I can remember we had to watch that movie in high school to understand what happened during that time. I was 13 years old if I remember correctly when I first saw it. That's why I stick to the saying "those who don't know the history are doomed to repeat it". Even today we as a country are deeply ashamed of it.

I love your comment "this is a movie that rearranges the furniture in my soul". You have a huge heart and an old soul. I wish more people were like you

This movie just stands to prove that the scariest monsters you will ever encounter in your life will be other humans.

“Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire”

Dear Kali, you knew this would be especially difficult.  But the beauty of your pain is that we still need to be human, to feel pain when faced with despicable inhumanity.  Thank you for putting your gentle and loving heart through this experience.

When Steven Spielberg asked John Williams to score Schindler's List, Williams was so deeply moved by the film that he felt inadequate, telling Spielberg, "You need a better composer than I am for this film". Spielberg's poignant reply, acknowledging the immense difficulty but the need for Williams's touch, was, "I know, but they're all dead,"

The ending with the actors and the real people was a stroke of genius!

I know artistry is the least important thing, but watch the way Spielberg frames his shots.
As Schindler goes from caring only about money, to barely tolerating Itzhak Stern saving people, to cooperating in Stern's efforts, to finally masterminding the scheme fully, Spielberg initially frames Schindler sitting side-by-side with Goeth, then face-to-face, then separated by a table, then one standing while the other sits, and then in the final shot they're in separate panes of a window. With Stern, it's the exact opposite sequence: in their first scene Schindler stands while Stern sits, later they're separated by a table, later sitting face to face, later standing side-by-side, showing his shifting relationship with both of them.
Early, while Schindler plans to make money, his eyes are in the light but the rest of his face in shadow, but in the late scene when he's bribing the officer to get his workers out of Auschwitz, it's the opposite: his face is lighted but his eyes are in shadow -- early on he's honestly being greedy, later he's deceitfully saving lives. Just a genius way to show Schindler's changing state of mind.

The scene when he cries at the end makes me cry every single time. I can’t help it.

The girl in the red coat…masterful filmmaking in a masterclass of a film

“One more person. A Person.”
Spielberg intention was to deliver a message for future generations.
This is what I think this whole movie it’s about. The Value of Human Life

For a dash of absolute craziness: this score is why Jurassic Park didn't earn John Williams another Oscar for best score.  He beat himself.

Poor Kali's heart, from Interstellar to Schindler's List.

You can tell that a movie has deeply touched you, when even your cat is disturbed. Hugs from Germany

I know most people love the quote “evil triumphs when good men do nothing” but “whoever saves one life, saves the world entire.” Is just as important. Giving to charity, helping literally just one person stay afloat can have an amazing ripple effect.

That scene where the children wave goodbye and their mothers chasing after them in horror was already hard enough to watch the first time, but Kali breaking down into uncontrollable crying and her cat waking up hearing her in distress made that scene so much harder to watch, it was devastating.😭

43 year old Jewish man. Watching this movie was mandatory in high school as well as going to Georgia’s Holocaust Museum. As a boy in the 90’s you aren’t supposed to cry in front of people. I was bawling my eyes out watching this and walking around the museum. My great grand mother was lucky she escaped Poland before the rest of her family got put in the Warsaw ghetto, some later to be shipped off to Auschwitz and some to Bukanwald(I’m sure I misspelled this one) This movie might be one of, if not the most, important movie of the last 50 years.

Every high school and/or college student studying World History NEEDS to view this film as part of the curriculum.  It is a vital, necessary experience in order to understand WWII and the globe-changing aftermath.

So glad that you watched this. I think it's a film everyone needs to watch at some point. I was very moved by your genuine emotional reaction to it. Thank you.

This was a very brutal masterpiece. As you said, it's an important watch. When I watched it, I was shocked how there was no filter at all, but it was necessary to shed light on how awful people were treated. I think that's hardest I've seen you cry, Kali. I hope you spent time with your kitties afterwards 🥺
