Ralph Fiennes who played Goeth took time in between takes to comfort the Schindler Jews on set as his likeness, performance and mannerisms were so much like him it caused panic attacks in some of them. Milla ( the lady who wouldn't go in the sewer ) thought he had come back to finish the job.
Schindler was part of their lives after the war going to family gatherings etc and they took care of him in his old age as he was ostracised by his own country because of what he did ( thats why his businesses failed) when Schindler passed away they paid for his funeral to be flown to Israel to be buried there as it was the highest honour they could bestow upon him for everything he did for them.

The jews he saved helped in when he went bankrupt in germany. Many of the survivors pledged one day’s pay per year to fund Schindler’s living and medical expenses. This charity kept him housed and fed until his death in 1974

In the end when the people were placing the stones on Schindler’s grave; it was the actual people and the actor that portrayed them in the film.

Oh man, I remember we were supposed to watch this movie in history class at school but I was sick that day so I decided to watch it at home while sick and I'm kind of glad I wasn't around my peers when seeing it because I too was a mess, bawling my eyes right out of my skull. The "I could have done more" scene touched me deeper than almost any scene in any movie I've seen, outlandishly spectacular performance by Liam Neeson.

Schindler was a complicated character. In a way, he was a product of his environment who happened to wake up to the injustice happening all around him.

What are the things I give this film the most credit for is the portrayal of Schindler. Schindler was not a good man. He was a scam artist. He was a sketchy businessman. He was a womanizer. What he wasn’t was a murderer. He is a man of questionable ethics, but not morality. He drew a line in the sand. He actually went onto continue as he had before the war. He had many failed businesses. Many failed relationships for obvious and good reasons. It doesn’t take away from that one good deed. It doesn’t make the sacrifices and the chance he took with his life any less heroic. A lot of times real heroes are morally gray. I really loved it. And a lot of the events that happened and the personal experiences come straight from the people who experienced them. It’s really moving depiction based on real life experiences of the people who lived the easiest and the best throughout this dark time in history. A lot of people forget that. Schindler’s jew were probably some of the best treated that had the best experience. Most Jews in Poland didn’t survive. It’s unbelievable. Crushing.

I saw this in theaters in 1993, at 14 years old, with my Jewish grandmother. It was one of the most powerful experiences of my life.

I watched this movie in the cinema with my mum that had ww2 trauma. We didnt speak after. We just went home, hugged, and went to our rooms.

While making this film director Steven spielberg, found it hard and would have weekly phone calls with Robin Williams as they became good friends after working together on hook.
On youtube there is a video of Steven being interviewed about the making of this film, i recommend watching it, he talks about many things even having to fight to have the film made in black and white which is how he wanted it.

Liking before even watching, as a first generation Polish American. Though I'm not Jewish, but rather Catholic, my grandfather fought in the Polish Underground Army.

The way I see the girl in the red coat, it was about Schindler's awakening to what was actually happening around him and the barbarity of it all. She is in red because he is seeing her (which may also explain why she was back to black and white when she was hidden from view).

I'm sure someone will tell me I'm wrong but it fits entirely with what is actually happening in that scene with Schindler clearly distressed while observing on horseback. Before he considered this a business concern alone, now his concern begins to focus on the lives of the workers (and the plight of the jews at large)

I've watched this film so many times, usually about once a year, so I could probably go timestamp by timestamp offering at the very least conjecture about what I think is going on. I've also spent the last decade researching World War Two and the holocaust, while I don't consider myself an expert by any means I could definitely also have answered some of your historical queries too. It would have just been too long a comment to be reasonable!

I knew youd be broken when you saw the girl in red in the cart such a heart renching scene was a child when i first saw this so didnt fully understand but now im a adult with a wife and kids the film absolutely breaks me

I watched this in the cinema with my sister and my mother. I remember several elderly viewers having to leave the theater because it was just too much for them. Left a lasting impression.

I clicked on this right away as well. As a fan of your reactions I knew this would be a tough one for you - and that is the point of this film. It’s not supposed to be an easy watch. Spielberg created a masterpiece.
