Recently, there's been discourse about DC finally "beating" Marvel at the comicbook and superhero game. Now, normally on this channel I don’t like to deal in the “Marvel vs DC” talk, at least not seriously. I love both universes and I think each one has its pros and its cons. People act like two legends can’t co-exist and all that.

But I do think there’s some merit in taking a step back, putting our biases aside and discussing what each company is doing well and what it’s falling behind on. Whether it be movies, comics, games, and even just cultural impact. Competition is a good thing after all, and for a while it has felt like DC was a bit of an underdog.

So let’s really ask the question. Is DC “beating” Marvel?

Damn that news about Peach Momoko working 20 hrs a day is genuinely insane, i hope she gets the rest and recognition she deserves

Dc has Detective Chimp, but Marvel has Hit-Moneky… so it’s a tie!

the Guardians of the Galaxy game was actually really good but no one played it

Darkseid and The Maker are the best executives we’ve had in recent years. Yeah there’s the whole “villain who wants to create their ultimate world they are god of” thing but like, is that anything compared to the Dan DiDio regime tbh?

The struggle to put out a video that’s about recent things and having to keep updating it with new info is so real😭

remember the artists' names and support their future work, absolutely!! it's the ultimate way to be a fan of both!

yeah i tripled down on your bit there don't make a big deal out of it or anything

I find it funny how people are so competitive towards both when they share a remarkable amount of similarities. I love both DC and Marvel, but you know what I love more? The characters, stories, and the creatives behind them. That should always be at the forefront of the conversation.

My little brother actually gave me a really interesting angle to look at modern ASM. He calls it the “Mickey Mouse/Donald Duck” archetype. Donald Duck is a character. There has been numerous projects where he has development and depth. Think of both ducktales series. Meanwhile, Mickey Mouse is less of a character and more of an idea. You can have REALLY FUN stories with Mickey Mouse, but Mickey will always be Mickey because he’s a symbol. Most comic characters start as Donald Duck, but (maybe inevitably) will become Mickey Mouse

20:30 Hell yeah Troy, thank you for this genuine reality check. We can go back and forth saying which company is better but at the end of the day, it's not the corporations that make these stories.🤝

16:22 16:33 Can we PLEASE give Absolute Superman some recognition too? I already knew the score with Absolute Batman so Absolute Wonder Woman and Absolute Superman are the series I've had the most active investment in this whole time. I love everything I've seen from Absolute Batman (especially him pulverizing the klan) but I didn't ever expect that series NOT to be handled well, Absolute Wonder Woman is exceptional all the way through and is deservedly the best series between The Absolute Trinity but Absolute Supes is really underrated even though it's a really compelling interpretation.

they really do need to make a superman game already

15:00 There was actually a Mr Terrific series last year called “Mr Terrific Year One”. It was a really good limited series I’d recommend anyone who wants to get into the character after seeing Superman.

Support the creatives! As a independent comic artist, whenever you talk about this in your videos, i always cheer, because there are so many instances of the artists in the industry, whose work make these corporations rich, but are often forgotten and end up in very unjust positions (like the recent case of Peter David). So, again, support the creatives! Hell yeah!

this is way less combative than the thumbnail makes it look, i swear

i just thought the dunk was funny and when i see a good bit i have no choice but to run with it

Honestly friendly competition is the best way to get each other to work towards improvement and innovation. Some of the best things to come out of both companies were to get the eyes off the other and on them.

No, marvel rivals is definitely doing a lot of the heavy lifting. But they are cooking and keeping people interested in the characters

Edit: also 12:12 new woman of tommorow compact comic that came out this year 😀, it’s pretty good
