Tariq, veteran actor of Yaadon Ki Baaraat and Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin, and cousin brother of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, gives an exclusive interview to Vickey Lalwani. The star who famously sang some of Rafi’s most famous songs Kya Hua Tera Vaada and Chand Mara Dil wearing a bandana and a half-waist jacket, had gone away from the limelight and gives his first interview in 30 years. The 70-year-old actor was a pale shadow of his flamboyant self and says that nobody reaches out to him.
Did you know that Tariq said no to the role that Raj Zutshi played in the Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla starrer QSQT directed by Mansoor Khan? Why was Tariq not attracted to any of his costars? Why could he not match steps with Neetu Singh in the famous song Lekar Hum Deewana Dil? What film does he believe was a mistake? Was his aunt, Nasir Hussain’s wife, perturbed when Asha Parekh got close to the filmmaker? What was his equation with frequent costar Rishi Kapoor, and what does he think of the acting of Ranbir Kapoor? Did you know that RD Burman was earlier meant to compose the music for QSQT? Did you know that the role of Dharmendra in Yaadon Ki Baaraat was refused by many stars, including Shammi Kapoor, Raj Kumar and Dilip Kumar? Why has he not been in the public eye after his last film Mera Damad in 1995?
All this and more in this unmissable conversation.
