Thanks for watching! Now if you'll excuse me... I need to watch that Maki episode for the 16th time.

Fmab power sacrifice was prob the highest peak ive seen in anime. Writing was legit so good it made me cry💀😭

Also you forgot about Ichigo’s second power loss, whenGinjo takes his Fullbring. To Ichigo that the closest he had to getting his power back and being able to protect his friends and Family, but when Ginjo steals it, he loses his mind, screaming at Ginjo to GIVE IT BACK. He doesn’t want to lose it again, but Rukia clutched up. Also why he hating Komamura, his sacrifice was actually sad as hell. He was so set on getting revenge he quite literally lost his humanity to get revenge, it’s a message of how revenge consumed his otherwise kind soul.

Im glad someone talked about this. People can be so openly immature on the internet, they just watch anime to see the main character showing off their power and completely miss the story that way. When the main character loses powers for story purposes they call the anime garbage and shit on the main character because power and status is everything to them, they cant at all see the bigger picture.

I'll add to your comments about Edwards sacrifice by bringing up another very important moment you forgot to mention, it's the moment where Edward sacrifices part of his soul to heal his flesh wound, thus shortening his lifespan. This is where he commits a spiritual self-sacrifice.

While Edwards original sacrifice was meant to represent a physical self-sacrifice. And I'm not talking about his leg and his brother's body, which is the punishment for his sin, the actual sacrifice was him giving up his arm to bring his brother's soul back and put it in that armor.

Finally he completes it by making a mental self-sacrifice, by giving up his knowledge for the life of his brother. And this specific act is even more virtuous when you read under the lines of what it symbolizes. Because remember, Edward originally sinned and lost his brother, but in exchange he gained his gate of Truth which contains all alchemical knowledge. So it was only fitting for him to make the reverse exchange, and give back that knowledge he had gained, hence it was deemed equivalent. And his gate symbolizes the fruit of knowledge, meanwhile his brother symbolizes the fruit of life, so in this subtle way the author is offering an ultimate act of redemption for humanity, through Edwards character. This is a perfect moment, that is also perfectly built up, and the one I consider to be the single greatest moment in all of anime.

Mirio being rendered quirkless wasn't part of his arc.  Mirio's arc was already complete by the time the story begins.  He's a fully realized character who went through his progression and development off-screen.  We see snippets of this in various flashbacks.  Mirio being rendered quirkless is part of Eri's arc.  Him giving up his quirk in her defense is proof of that in hindsight.  The story was never acting like Mirio's power was gone for good.  Eri makes it clear almost immediately that she wants to get to the point where she can return to Mirio what Overhaul's abuse of her power took.  If anything, Mirio losing his quirk was the plot device.  Mirio returning to the battlefield wielding permeation is a signal that Eri's arc in the story is complete.  Sure it feels awesome in the moment to have Mirio return to the field with his power intact, but for those who aren't just there for the spectacle, once the episode ends and they have the chance to take it all in, there's an additional layer of satisfaction for what that means for Eri.

I heavily disagree with “sacrificing their life” being the biggest sacrifice a character can make. For some characters, giving their life it’s the easy way out. Once you go over a certain threshold in a character altruistic aspects, living a life of powerlessness and impotence would be harder than no life at all.

I'm surprised that you didn't mention hawks in this video. Hawks has probably one of my favorite examples of power loss, simply due to how strong the symbolism is. Wings are often a symbol of freedom in most media, so it is a form of dramatic irony that Hawks became caged into his role in hero society due to his wings, only to be freed from this prison when he finally lost them.

He understands fullbring ❤

I love this cause it definitely fits in with the work culture of Japan were things like sacrificing your power of autonomy in order to contribute to the whole are considered a norm. Excellent work as always king 👏🏾

Ed because not only was it a powerful moment and sacrifice it showed how he truly learned from his mistakes when he negotiated with The Truth and offered the correct answer.

Character in bleach don’t die when the have holes in them because it’s said by both rukia and shunsui that a soul reapers life force is equal to his/ her spiritual energy

Is crazy how losing ofa was the best for Izuku grow as a chararter, he is much happier realized his value as a person without a quirk and finally see him as other chararters saw him, and he managed to be selfish for once at the end of the manga.

1:40 In this context exclusively, yes, I'd rather Naruto loses his powers, simply because things got way too out of hand by the end of the story.

One of the interactions i love about the sacrifice in FMA is the interaction with Ed and Truth, with the line about Edward recognizing that giving up alchemy doesn't make him a normal man, he's been one the whole time. Obviously the line itself is GOATed, but i love Truth's reaction. IMO, Truth's smile in that moment FEELS different, like he's finally found someone who understands the actual "truth" about alchemy, understands their own limitations, and knows when to stop pushing for more power/knowledge. Truth appears as a tricksy antagonist throughout much of the series as Ed and Al fight to gain the power to undo the mistake they made, but I'd argue at the end Truth's attitude feels more of a "you finally get it" than it does a "grrr you bested me" or something like that.

5:40 Alex Zanardi is the name you want. 1997 and 98 CART champion, F1 driver. Had both his legs amputated in a racing accident and AFTERWARDS became a multi time Paralympics medal winner and iron man contestant.

14:47 komamura's sacrifice is integral to one of the central themes of the story. Revenge being bad runs through the story since the literal first arc with Ichigo and grand fisher. It gets repeated with Uryu (yes in the Mayuri fight), tousen, toshiro, ginjo, Ichigo again, komamura (direct parallel to tousen) and once again Ichigo. People being illiterate is their problem

I think an interesting subversion of the Power Sacrifice is Rock Lee during the Chunin Exams. Here we had a guy who had zero genuine talent in ninjutsu or genjutsu so instead focused it all on Taijitsu and in the third fight we see him in he faces Gaara, who was built up to be a threat and, let's be honest was probably going to win regardless. But Lee still fought hard and risked his life using the 8 inner gates but it wasn't enough. Normally when the hero loses their power in a fight it was through winning in the final battle of coming out victorious. Lee vs Gaara ended with Gaara not only still standing but crippling Lee, essentially putting Lee in a place where he could no longer properly fight. Then we see Lee in the hospital, recovering and healing until we see him trying to train despite his injuries.  And despite him knowing that he couldn't (at that time) continue being a ninja he still kept trying to train.

Most heroes sacrifice their powers to claim a win or succeed in a fight. Lee lost his power taking on a gamble with his hidden lotus attack which failed and left him forced to retire yet he managed to recover thanks to Tsundere.

While it's different the loss of power Lee banked on failed and he had a choice to walk away. There was no actual sacrifice either it was by his own choice an pride that cost him.

Life doesn't have to be thr ultimate sacrifice. A hero goes out in a blaze of glory, the day is saved, his friends are secure, and off he goes to the bright light with the Reaper saying he did good.

Meanwhile, when a character has been striving to get better, be more powerful, gain more control, and reach the top to save not just this day, but all of the days, then sacrificing their power is an even worse blow. Once you're dead, you're essentially at peace. (Buu raiding the afterlife notwithstanding) Being forced to live out the rest of your days with the memory of what was, seeing others still live it, while you are left behind, is easily the bigger sacrifice.

Gons ultimate sacrifice was the most resonating to me along with Vegeta's final explosion. The music... The darkness.. everything was absolutely fire.
