This world lost an immense light with Akira Toriyama's passing. May his memory be for a blessing. Simply brilliant, he was.

I kept getting surprised every time he didn't say Dragon Quest IX. I loved it a lot when I played it, so I'm delighted to see it get so high!

as a DQ7 defender, its 100% a super long and needlessly complicated game, but if it clicks with you then its one of the bests because theres so much of it. But super fair to not be everyones cup of tea.

I learned Japanese solely to play DQX, now I work for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and frequently make business trips to Japan. Was a good way to spend my COVID lockdown

You definitely should check out the 1-3 remakes, they enhance the games by a lot in length and story.

The Dragon Quest pun game is S-Tier. The amount of time / dedication they put into them is unmatched.

Dragon Quest IX was my first every DQ game. It was such a blast when I was young and I couldn't stop playing, the story I found enjoyable but I spent so much time just doing side quests and solving mysteries and finding all of the hidden stuff. The dungeon mechanics are amazing, I still have so many dungeons left to loot.

Really glad to see 9 where it is. It was the first DQ game I played since 1/2 got released on the Gameboy color. You briefly mentioned the post game content which I delved into for about 20-30 hours before I had my fill. It's crazy just how much stuff they managed to pack into that game.

DQ 11 was my first in the series and I couldn’t put it down. A fan for life. Going to check out 5 now too

haha SungWon played Dragon Quest 4 on the DS as a tiny child, I can relate, I played it on the NES as a tiny child, haha if you'll excuse me I have to get into this coffin

You have to jump through hoops to set it up but it's possible to play DQX in English with a fan translation. Anyone looking for more dragon quest (and like MMO's) it's definitely worth it.

I agree with the preference of JPRG characters having their fixed "classes". The less time I have to deal with analysis paralysis over who is going to be what, the better. Despite this fact, VII on the 3DS is the first DQ game I have played and to this day still the only one I have completed and for that reason holds a special place in my heart.

10:04 I'm glad that IX is so high on your ranking. I agree that it incentivized level up and change classes, which made that system really fun.

6:22 Fun Fact: Dragon Quest Builders 1 is an alternate “dark” timeline of the events of DQ1, where instead of killing the Dragon Lord, you agree to join him and embrace the Darkness.
