When I was about five years old, I figured out how to view stereographs without the viewer. Many years later, at Iowa State University, I met a professor who taught classes in stereographic analysis of aerial photographs. He told me about 2/3 of his students were able to figure out how to view the photographs without the equipment. Those who could do that, could process images about twice as fast as those that relied on the equipment. I wonder how many of the photo interpreters in World War II used the same trick.

Great story told in a single 21 minute sentence.

There is serious factual error in this video. The V1 launch sites in the Pas de Calais area were discovered by Michel Hollard, the founder and leader of the Reseau Agir espionage group. He spotted an odd construction site, managed to access it, and spotted a distinctive linear structure. On a hunch, he put a compas on it - the bearing turned out to point to London. He sent agents out with maps, to roam the Pas de Calais area, and they found over 100 such construction sites. He also managed to get an agent, a young engineer, into the drawing office of one site. This enabled Hollard and the young engineer to create a,set of construction drawings for this site, which Hollard took to Switzerland on his next visit to the British military attache in Berne.
The result was a British bombing campaign in which most of these construction sites were destroyed.
It is thanks to Hollard and his Reseau that the V1 program was reduced to a fraction of its planned intensity.
In his memoir on the European War, Eisenhower estimated that Agir's work reduced the V1 to about 1/6 or 1/10 the intensity it would otherwise have reached. A disaster was averted.

it's a shame that the pictures don't match the voice description!

We have an almost identical stereographic viewer, as shown being held by Constance at 0:20 seconds in, in our home. It is made of wood, with bits of metal and the glass lenses. We have no idea how old it is, but many decades for sure.

from mid 1941 onward, the mosquitos were the most used reconnaissance planes, especially at 30 000 feet ...

Sloppy AI.  Many photos unrelated to the story.

"One photograph became six sites, then sixty, and changed how nations would watch each other forever." That ending is an incredible reminder that careful observation can be as powerful as any weapon. Which WWII intelligence breakthrough do you think had the greatest impact on the war?

The A.I. images overwhelmingly have NOTHING TO DO with this story...   A.I. still SUCKS

How did an F4 Phantom time travel back to WW2? Not only that, but another swept wing jet with clipped wings?

Close the curtains! Don't you know there's a blackout?

The Image keeps ROCKING like a drunk grandpa in his rocking chair...

A great story but it would carry more credibility if modern photographs were not used.

You do say it's AI, but you give the game away @12:00, when you show a supposedly old photograph of a supposedly old map that includes the modern Canadian flag, which we didn't have in WW2.  It's that kind of slipup by enemy forces that made the British intelligence so good at what they did.

Duncan Sands - the 'Y' is not pronounced.

🤣🤣🤣🤣...."Pina Munda" best AI fumble I've ever heard...🤣🤣🤣🤣

Ai generated images just invalidate a a good documentary.. Usaf and 80mm cross sections on the rockets specification are just two examples

Pictures show computer monitors

AI spoils a very significant historical story.  It's an insult to the men and women who risked their lives - and those who gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy today.  Pictures of modern computers, modern jet fighters and bullshit uniform badges just make the whole thing a joke.
When I was an Intelligence operator, I was trained to interpret air photographs without a stereoscope device.  It's not that difficult once you get used to it.

???? spitfires  ???? they never had the range to reach that far into Germany.
