Madge being left out is my biggest movie gripe!!!

I have a possible theory for the pin. Maysilee gives it to Asterid, and she re sells it at the hob after Burdock died to feed Prim and Katniss. That would match with the “keep it its yours” that Sae told Katniss in the first movie

This is inconsequential, but I also hate how Greasy Sae just gives her the pin, and Katniss just says ‘thank you’. No way in hell she’d accept something for free.

It always annoys me and no one ever mentions it 😂

Also, Peeta doesn’t hold Katniss back from her potential - he helps her reach it. Katniss even knows this, she says it at the end of the books, that she has enough fire and she needs what Peeta gives her.

When they changed how Thresh died in movie 1, but then gave the book death cause in Mockingjay part 2 lol

I absolutely HATED that there was a "bloodbath" at all in the TBOSAS film. It totally counteracts the point the book was trying to make about the Games, which is that these are all just terrified, starving, sickly children who have no idea what they're doing and their instincts will be to run and hide. Also, no one liked watching the Games because they were boring. They didn't have the pizzazz that we see in the trilogy. If the nature of the Games isn't what changed, it means that only the Capitol viewers have changed, when the whole point is that isn't true. One of Snow's goals in TBOSAS is to find a way to incentivize tribute performance and increase viewer engagement. I don't think we needed an action-packed bloodbath scene at all. I think a tense moment of everyone just grabbing supplies and then scurrying away once the Games start, maybe looking at each other momentarily and creating some suspense for viewers who don't know what the tributes' next moves are gonna be. And then an equally tense montage of Snow looking at footage of what appears to be an empty arena, with Lamina on her ledge and basically nothing else, showing time passing while Snow becomes increasingly stressed out and anxious over not knowing what's going on in the tunnels and struggling to think of any reasons why this footage of an empty arena would get people to keep watching.

They wouldn't have to spend too much time on it, and there's plenty more action to engage the theatergoer later in the Games along with the story that takes place after they're over. Hell, even the bombing before the Games provides some good action.

The movie seems to show that Dr. Gaul's thesis about human nature is correct, while the entire series' thesis is the exact opposite. It felt soooo jarring watching it for the first time.

It bothers the heck outta me that Thresh is just killed off screen by the mutts instead of murdered by Cato

I just remembered something they cut out of catching fire. When Peeta came into Haymitch’s house and poured out all his alcohol

Madge being erased annoys me for so many reasons. Not only the whole mockingjay pin thing, but the fact that she was genuinely kind and a good friend to Katniss, even if it takes her a little while to see madge as a true friend.  Their bond was sweet and a bit unexpected.

People love to confuse weakness and morals too. Peeta had a strong moral code to the point that violence was plan Z. People take from his intelligence, emotional intelligence, and genuine high quality character he is.

Also they cut out when katniss got injured climbing over the fence and her and Peeta worked on the family plant book and the rooftop picnic they had on the training center

Great take on these changes! For me the two changes with the biggest impact are the pin and Peeta’s leg. I wonder how they will explain the pin. The thing is that Madge being Maysilee’s niece and her being the one to give it to Katniss has deeper meaning than it randomly making it’s way to the Hob. I hadn’t thought about the difference between deaths and their order.

2:26 The thing is… she was already there. Maysilee has been a character since the second book. And the second book had already been published when the screenplay for the first film was written; so her significance was quite clearly established. They could have known 😬.

First-time viewer looking for a little escape into a fictional world - I enjoyed this analysis. Thank you. Happy to subscribe.

I think I mind more that they cut out stuff like Katniss writing this book of her dads knowledge and what we now know to be all this Covey culture Katniss was unwittingly protecting through her dads teachings. Like, the movies couldn't know the Covey (and their cultural erasure) would become this big side-theme in the franchise, but in omitting the stuff that alludes to them, the movies are now struggling to highlight how this genocided culture, from the grave, became the inspirational backbone of the rebellion and how their legacy basically spread through panem like their people once did.

i truly think that unless it is TOO DIFFICULT to adapt into the movie, the filmmakers should have a responsibility to be as authentic to the source material as possible.

it has always bothered me when super tiny details are changed from book to movie. effie's reaping outfit for example, in the book she's said to be wearing a spring green suit, but in the movie it is changed to the deep maroon/burgundy outfit. i assume since deeper purples like that are associated with royals, the costume person or director recommended to change to fit more thematically.

on the other hand, i do understand that to many (even most) people these minute details do not matter.

6:04 THANK YOU

For Maysilee's pin, they could explain the difference away that once Maysilee died, the family got rid of her things because the grief was too strong. The pin was made FOR Maysilee, so it's not actually been passed down for generations, just one generation. so the pin ends up in the Hob with the rest of her personal stuff because someone thought it might have value (which it does since it's supposedly made of gold...). Might be wrong and not remembering everything in Sunrise on the Reaping correctly, but that is my idea on how to bridge that gap.

Great video! My favorite Character from thg was Madge and I loved Delly in Mockingjay I wish they would have included them in the movies😔

Maybe during the reaping the pin falls off of Maysilee and a young Gressy Sae finds it later.
