October 1944. A German tank commander narrates thirteen days of combat in Hungary β€” from the streets of Budapest to the frozen plains outside NyΓregyhΓ‘za. This is a first-person account told from inside the turret of a King Tiger.

The 503rd Heavy Panzer Battalion (schwere Panzerabteilung 503) had just refitted at Sennelager with brand-new Tiger IIs and was shipped to Hungary in early October 1944. On October 15, six of their King Tigers rolled through the cobblestone streets of Buda Castle in support of Operation Panzerfaust β€” Otto Skorzeny's coup to prevent Hungary from surrendering to the Soviets. Days later, the battalion deployed east to the Battle of Debrecen, where Marshal Malinovsky's 2nd Ukrainian Front and Pliyev's Mechanised Cavalry Group threatened to encircle entire German armies on the Hungarian plain.

This narrative follows one company commander through the mechanical failures, fuel shortages, isolation, and losses that defined armoured warfare on the Eastern Front in the final year of the war.
