Pretty interesting comparison! Haven't seem any other channels doing this.
As a hobbyist, was thinking about getting the a7R VI, but now I'm more likely to go with A7V.

Thank Alex for this INTERESTING video. I agree with you about the color science of the A7V. Out of the box, the skin tone created by the A7V looks warmer and more beautiful to me.

I'm looking forward to the Sony A75 vs Leica video. Those are my two systems.

Jason Vong released a video a couple weeks back going over the setting that will give you those colors on the RVI and any Sony cam. It worked for me and was surprising. He shared info he got directly from former Sony ambassador Professor Hines.

One of the features that I see almost nobody mention is the custom named functions that you can do with the A7RVI. I don't believe the A7V has this.

For those that don't know, you can create up to 10 of your own named custom functions for different types of shooting. For example, I have Animals, Birds, People, Sports, Landscape, Astro, etc. and then I can customize the camera for each of those different types of shooting. It even has a feature that you can turn on, where it will automatically save any settings you change. So, if you want to start out and just name a bunch of functions and as you use them and tweak each one to your liking they will be set up exactly how you last used them. It makes it really quick and easy to switch between shooting modes vs. having to tweak each setting each time you do a different type of photography. Honestly, that feature alone makes the A7RVI worth it to me.

I would keep both of them! Surely you can justify having such a solid backup camera😊

Thank you so much for doing this comparison. Most of the videos I've watched are comparing video specs between the two cameras. I've been trying to talk myself into spending the extra money on the R6 because I've never owned an R line camera. I went from the A7III to the A7Cii and after seeing the files side by side... I'd agree, A7V looks better.

This is encouraging. Been in and out of Sony, but always come back to Leica because I spend less time color grading Leica DNGs. Unless you need the extra pixels, I'd keep the A7V. Thanks for posting this!

As someone who shoots canon and Fiji it appears Sony did update their color science as they said. The green tint is not as apparent. I cant wait for the A7C iii if it ever comes out. Thank you for taking the time to make this video

I bought the Sony A1 mkii and wanted a backup camera.  I took a chance on the A7V and have been more than pleasantly surprised with it's performance even when shooting wildlife with birds in flight.  The A7V amazes me every time I take it out and yes; I noticed immediately the difference in the color science between the 2 cameras.

This comparison isn't as apples to apples as I think you think it is. When you compare raw files in a raw processor, you're not just comparing raw data differences. You're comparing the interpretations of that raw processor of the different cameras/sensors. Those differences you see could very well be that the A7RVI being newer means Adobe has had less time to develop their profile (I'm simplifying it for brevity). I actually think JPEG would be a good data point to compare as well. Not because I think it matters for how you shoot, but because it's another interpretation of the raw sensor data, this time it's Sony's interpretation. And this isn't to say that the raw comparison in Lightroom isn't still useful, it is because it shows how your photos will come out with this version of Lightroom. But it's showing you how the raw files are interpreted by Lightroom on this version, and it can change as time goes on. It's not a permanent comparison of how the cameras differ.

I got an A7V a couple of months ago, I notice a slight green cast to some of my photos. I noticed it on some of your photos as well. I guess that’s just the Sony sensor calibration.

I currently have an A7V, the older A7RV, and A1 II. I’ve given thought to selling the A7RV and replacing it with the A7RVI but also really like my A7V and the A7RVI does not offer the same shooting benefits of my A1 II. So I think I will just sell the A7RV and sit tight wit the A7V and A1 II. Thank you for this video and take care.

Both of these cameras have great specs and I'm a Nikon shooter. Waiting for Nikon's answer to them while using Z6III and Z7II which are still good.

The AWB algorithms are different between the two cameras regardless of settings, as well as, the sensor. There will be minute color differences that are subjective. The "color science" between the two are understandably and expected to be different. I believe that you can tweak the WB to make them match (if you really wanted to). Personally, the A7V looks like it has more "color" but I would also argue that its a bit more saturated too.

How are you not mentioning the massive blueish color cast of the a7V on both the wall and the plants on the left in 6:50 and 7:49?

FX5 would go out of these 3 for me and I’m a video primary guy.

Interestingly, I am used to DXO Photolab's Deep Prime XD 3 denoise software with A7RV and A7RVI raw files. What struck me immediately is that Lightroom's denoise images look awful in comparison. Just an observation.

Maybe buy an RX10V?  I really like the camera.  I am waiting for the A7CII replacement (older, need something lighter).  Still like my A7RV though, but I wish it had the AF capability of the A7V and A7RVI.   Choice is good.   I like bird and wildlife photography so one of these days, when the cameras go on sale, maybe an upgrade will be more paletable.  Your  reasoning is very good on the tools that you use.
