Jaby & Michael return to Hillman College with Netflix’s 2026 sequel series A Different World, jumping in right after finishing the original show. A new generation takes center stage as Deborah Wayne, the youngest daughter of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert, begins her freshman year at Hillman. Determined to build a life outside her parents’ legacy, Deborah navigates new friendships, romance, family expectations, and the challenges of finding her own place at the iconic HBCU—while plenty of familiar faces from the original series return along the way.

Developed by showrunner Felicia Pride with original series director Debbie Allen returning as an executive producer and director, A Different World stars Maleah Joi Moon (Hell’s Kitchen, Mystic Christmas), Alijah Kai (Everybody Hates Chris, Runt), Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall, Kennedi Reece, and Chibuikem Uche (One of Us Is Lying, The Tomorrow War). Returning favorites include Kadeem Hardison (White Men Can’t Jump, K.C. Undercover), Jasmine Guy (Harlem Nights, Dead Like Me), Cree Summer (Rugrats, Atlantis: The Lost Empire), Darryl M. Bell (School Daze), Dawnn Lewis (Dreamgirls, Star Trek: Lower Decks), and Jada Pinkett Smith (Girls Trip, The Matrix Revolutions).
