Alex Horne Shares His Dream Taskmaster Contestants | Russell Howard's Five Brilliant Things

It’s the Taskmaster’s Assistant, Alex Horne! And he’s here to tell his Brilliant things and as you would probably expect it’s a complete delight.

Did you think birdwatching was boring? Guess again! Failing to see the majesty of the French Horn? Let Alex enlighten you!

Alex brings an array of delights in an episode that will fly by and leave you with that cosy feeling in your guts. I probably should have used a more poetic word than guts. That description really tailed off at the end there. Guts can ruin anything. Just listen to the damn episode and enjoy yourself.

📕 Alex’s novel The Last Pebble (as mentioned on the podcast) is available now! It’s for teens but to be honest I bet it’s an excellent read whatever age you are. 📕

🎭 And of course you can watch Taskmaster, episodes new and old either at Channel 4, Netflix or on Youtube for some best bits‪@Taskmaster‬

I’m very sad that we can never see Sean Lock on Taskmaster- amongst other things. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

Absolutely love Little Alex Horne. He genuinely seems a decent bloke.

Someone has probably already said this but you can't paint a turtle. The shell is their actual skeleton and they can get really sick and malformed if you put paint on them.

"My dad like to see the same birds everyday". Ah yes, would you say autism runs in your family?

It's so funny the various ways Russell continues to misremember the "find the best thing in common with this woman" task - on the podcast he described it as getting her to like you, and here he says "win her over" and that was never the task lol

Editing suggestion, when showing the guests something, edit it into the footage so we also see what is being shown/described

As a person who once played in an indoor futsal team with Sam Campbell. I can confirm what Alex said that he can't play football haha

"You can't paint someone else's turtle" Good advice, didn't expect it, though...

We had a Golden Eagle nest in a tree about 5 meters from our balcony a few years back. It was amazing to see them everyday and to watch the eaglets hatch and grow up. They’re really impressive up close. The only thing that was a little intense is that they’d take off from the nest in the direction of our balcony. So their wings would be fully out as they looked like they were coming right at us. Then at the last moment, they would turn and rise.

"pre kids the birds were incredible" is a quote that you could blackmail him with for a long time

Frogger! About 40 years ago my niece (about 3 or 4 at the time), would watch her dad playing Frogger on Atari. She'd then pick up the tv remote and try to play the game. The remote has became known to me ever since as "the frogger".

Alex has a very similar childhood to mine my dad was an Ornithologist and I spent a long time being dragged out to see really interesting birds, and all my holidays were bird related. I'm including going to spain for bird ringing science

30:31 you definitely can not paint turtle shells — at least when they’re still on the turtle 😅

Love how Alex leaned into his weirdness :)

Can't imagine Greg in a kimono? Even the beautiful one Bridget Christie bought for him and then brought in as a prize for the prize task?
(Series 13, Episode 5 and I can't believe these are the things that stick in my brain.)
