Zack Polanski has called for a 3-year cap on private rents. Elsewhere at Green Party conference, tensions are running high over a motion to declare that Zionism equates to racism.

Plus: Fires have broken out in French schools as students across the country protest funding and conditions, and Suella Braverman’s argument that only white people can be English goes down like a lead balloon with the Question Time audience.

Somebody should ask Cruella what she would define herself as if Scotland and Wales gained independence and Britain and therefore Britishness no longer existed in the sense that it does now...

Those brilliant pensioners showed up the Labour Party for the shameful contradiction that it has become.

The rent cap proposal is a good thing. The Greens will quickly learn, if they haven't already, that landlords will do anything they can to circumvent such legislation. This will call for more pressure on landlords in the future.

Thanks Novara. You're filling a space that the main stream media abandoned for tabloid sound bites decades ago. Quality analysis.

I feel like… it’s like blackjack. You have to be hardcore enough to be able to genuinely push Labour to the left (as we’ve seen). But if you’re too hardcore you look like crazy people and you lose all your influence.

Nothing to do with the actual content of the movement - which sounds mostly correct to me - Zionism is racism. But are we here to be purely correct at all times or are we here to make genuine political change?

Brilliant. This is much needed.

Richard Murphy has some very good ideas about how to bring ex-public assets back into public ownership without costing the taxpayer a fortune. No reason housing couldn't be included in those schemes

Landlords are parasites that need to be controlled.
New council and social housing should have rents that are affordable for working people.

Tha k you Michael. Your coverage by Clare of the main issues at GP Conference is very objective. Really demonstrating the approach to democratic debate that is fundamental to Green's membership. The interview with NEF representative was also really informative.

Zack Polanski’s call for an emergency rent brake, social justice and support for communities fighting for a fairer society resonates strongly with EthyOn’s mission. Birmingham’s Green leadership now has an opportunity to turn these principles into action by supporting community initiatives that tackle inequality, strengthen inclusion and help vulnerable people.

We need a Mamdani, not moral crusades. Pracitcal solutions, to the problems we all face. Cost of Living. Wealth Inequality. City owned grocery stores. Rent controls etc. We need to prioritise the big tickets and stop the division. I think the test is can the average person say they will confidently be better off with Greens, and why.
