Another great axe conservation project. My dad had a full sized Plumb axe that I learned to cut wood with as a young man. Went group camping on the beach in high school and impressed the gang chopping up driftwood for a big beach party fire. Good times.
Looks great. I enjoy the clean-up of tools. It preserves a piece of history. I don't think people realize the importance of that nowadays. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
When it comes to applying linseed oil to wood handles for hand tools or even garden tools, there is a simple formula I use for best results. I learned this many years ago. Apply as follows. Once a day for a week, once a week for a month and once a month for a year. It gives amazing results.
Nice clean up/preservation. I found a nice Plumb half hatchet today at the flea market. Resin filled top and long maroon handle still in tack. Nice job. Jim
Appreciate the additional background on the Plumb. I also like doing minimal restoration and more making them clean and well maintained. It does take some tolerance for the visual wear and use of the tool though.
