Baseball historian Bill Jenkinson wrote a book on baseball's great sluggers through the decades. He cited interviews of other players that saw these sluggers perform, and Jenkinson also interviewed as many living players as he could. He noticed that the recollections of the players that saw Ruth perform far surpassed the stories of others. So Jenkinson's next book concentrated on Ruth.
Jenkinson was able to reconstruct Ruth's spray charts from exhaustive newspaper research. He found something he didn't expect: if Ruth had hit the same exact fly balls in his career (hits and outs included) in modern stadiums and under modern rules, he would have totaled over 1,100 home runs. In 1921 alone, Ruth would have hit 104 home runs.

In that year, Ruth hit at least one 500+ foot home run in every AL park.

Ichiro infront of Griffey is beyond crazy!!!! He shouldn’t be infront of Thomas or probably anybody on this list

Ichiro is tied for 889th place all time for OPS+. 😂. Not in the same universe as the top 20 hitters.

My lineup/positions would include; Ruth, Cobb, Speaker, Foxx, Wagner, Hornsby, Gehrig, Cochrane, DH; Williams, shoeless JJ.

What?? NO Jimmie Foxx? Jimmie was the best right handed power hitter from the late 1920s to the early 40s. He hit 534 home runs which was second to Babe Ruth for a long time. He batted .325 over his career with a 609 slugging percentage and over 2600 career hits. He was the first man to win 3 MVP awards; won the triple Crown. He hit over 50 home runs twice. He actually hit 60 home runs in 1932 but 2 home runs didn't count because of a rain delay. The game was called off and it wasn't ruled an official game so that cost him the 60 home run single season record. I can't believe that you have Mickey Mantle in the top 20 and not Jimmie Foxx. I honestly believe Jimmie Foxx should've been in the top 10. Top 15 at the least.⚾️⚾️⚾️

With a lifetime batting average under .300, there is ABSOLUTELY NO possible way Barry Bonds is first!!! The top three have got to be Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, and Lou Gehrig, not necessarily in that order. I saw where someone mentioned Jimmie Foxx being on this list. I TOTALLY agree with him!!!

Williams might have had 8 MVPs if he hadn’t missed 3 prime full years in WW2 and the voters voted fairly. between 1941 and 1949 Williams had seasons of 1941 406 MVP2, 1942 triple crown MVP2, 1943-1945 3 season in WW2, 1946 MVP, 1947 triple crown MVP2, 1948 MVP 3, 1949 MVP. He had 2 MVPs, 3 MVP 2nd and 1 MVP 3rd and missed 3 full prime seasons. Had 2 triple crown seasons and 1 406 season when he was MVP 2nd.

You just answered your question when talking about Ted Williams. He played in the modern era when pitchers threw the slider. The greatest pure hitter ever!

I can't believe you have a man who is banned from the hof for life above Someone who's a member of the all century team, has over 600 hr, has 10 career gold gloves and never was anywhere near linked to PEDs...

I really thought I w I understand see Manny Ramirez on this list. It's a great list though

@DavidSharpe-l8t 1 month ago

No mention of Eddie Collins?

There is some bizarre infatuation with Ichiro. He is tied for 889th place all time in OPS+. He’s not a top 20 outfielder, let alone a top 20 hitter. Peak Mike Trout is about as peak as it gets btw.

If we are talking about hitting alone , with historical hitting achievements in play, I have to place Miguel Cabrera above KG, Ichiro, Pete Rose, and maybe Joe Demaggio but couldn't argue if one disagreed.. But 306/.382/.518, 140 OPS, plus 1 of 3 with 3000+ hits 500+Hr and .300+ career average, the other 2 being Hank Aaron and Willie Mays... First triple crown in 2012 since 1967 then beat those numbers in 2013... 7 silver sluggers, 4 batting titles, 2 AL.mvps... I mean he's not top 5 here or anything, but I definitely feel he needed to be above those guys when we are talking straight hitting.

Game of legends😂

Looking at Rose's hit on Fosse, I believe that if it was a football game, Rose would have been thrown out of the game and fined for a hit on a defenseless player; and fined.

I'm sorry did I miss Wade Boggs?

@nickpapageorgio4944 1 year ago

Great video until the end. Some would disqualify him due to steroids, but at the very least he shouldn't have been number one in my opinion. I was a big fan until his steroid use became public. At this point I wouldn't have put him on this list at all and believe his home run record should be erased.

when you start off with mr coffee i can tell you arent serious.

@reaperstevenash 1 month ago

Willie mays and hank arron 7 and 6??????? Are you kidding me that's at least 2 and 3 on this list

@will-x9c 8 months ago

You might have mentioned Carl Yaztremski. 400+, 3000+, 1500+, 7 time Gold Glover, 18 All-Star appearances, Triple Crown in 1967. Far more talent and class than steroid-assisted Bonds. Take away the roids and you'd have just another good player. So he beat the tests. That's easy. And I'm sure they looked the other way because he was a STAR. PED's changed everything and not for the better. You might have mentioned hitting machine Rod Carew as well. Rose was a showboat and a singles hitter. Ruth was a pot-bellied drunk but boy did he have personality. And he was very strong. Today I think he'd be a mediocrity. It's a completely different game. And no Roberto Clemente? Williams might have been the perfect hitter but Clemente was a close second
