I was in my first and only year at Berklee, and I walked the long walk to Paul's and back for my first time to see this show. Then, surrealistically, when I got home I turned on the radio to find the station that recorded the show that night was playing it then!

Pete Cosey & Reggie Lucas were such great guitarists. They really brought that wild phycadelic sound to Miles’ music. I love all of the live recordings from the 73 - 75 era.

Several of us drove down from Franconia College for one of these '73 shows. Got seated at a cocktail table right in front, stage left. Wow! we were totally blown away 😎 Great night of sounds, rhythms and solos.

I saw a set of Miles during this week. Pharoah was playing down the hall in the Jazz Workshop and when that let out they were nice enough to let us spill into the Miles set. Fantastic experience. Props to Fred Taylor whom I later met and did a little work for.

So magical and mystical… I love what Mtume and Al do to the beats. The underwater sounding African slit drum part, you can hear all the double strokes. It’s a super busy part!

14:20 to 18:45 ….Pete Cosey’s solo here is one of the best things ever to happen since time began.

Thanks to Fred Taylor (late owner of Paul's Mall/Jazz Workshop who's autobiography is out "What, and Give Up Show Biz?" has a marvelous chapter on Miles.

That was a Wednesday night.
If he played through the weekend then I probably saw him that Saturday night.
I caught that band at least a few times at Paul’s Mall.
Low drop ceiling as I recall, good acoustics and people smoked cigarettes.
The year before (in 1972) I heard him on a weekday night play the room on a live broadcast aired by WBCN FM.

When WBCN was still a great station. They even played Ligeti's "Atmospheres! "

Surprisingly good recording.

I still am struck at how committed, free and listening these soloists are here, unencumbered by the lack of harmonic movement in this still Miles ahead music... and yup what a great recording for live in '73!
