I saw this same version Portia, end of show with Darrell Jones on bass in Portland at Starry Night, small room really. Audience close like this — Just like this. Changed my life forever. No words. Been looking for this w Darrell long time.
.....Incredible! The soundtrack to epic events. Like the birth of a child, or a planet! Miles probably has on a 10,000$ outfit and the bassist has on a wife-beater. Long as you can jam!!
The best keyboard sounds Miles has ever had. The magic box has been opened. Unbelievable. What an arsenal of programmed analog synthesizers. It's never been seen again. And the musicians were all at the peak of their time, a year later when Marcus Miller released Tutu for Miles Davis. Robert Irving III was musical director. Thank you for this great time, which I was also able to experience live in Stuttgart, Tübingen, and Freiburg.
I remember being 17 years old, watching VH1 late, and hearing this for the first time via the 'Tutu - Medley' video where this was the last part of the medley. Completely enchanted and blown away as the chords and vibe were so otherworldly and ethereal. At 17 I felt beyond sophisticated listening to this, as it transported me to a lovely and sublime adult place that is too perfect for reality. That same feeling washes over me when I listen to this today at age 53. Magic.
It makes me very emotional I did see this band several times and portia was the epitaph. Miles has been a reference on my life . I reccomend to listen Agharta and Pangaea two sets in Osaka back in the 70's just before he disappeared
I am so grateful that I was able to see and hear him play- this tune. It was truly mystical. I miss him for sure. But grateful. Westbury Music Fair, The Peer, and Avery Fisher Hall - Lincoln Center. Thank you!
