THE DESTRUCTION OF THE PALACE IN KAMIEŃC ZĄBKOWICKI 🏰1945 - KAMIENIEC ZĄBKOWICKI. OSTATNI WŁAŚC...
🏰 Marianna of Orange created one of the most extraordinary palaces in Lower Silesia – the monumental palace in Kamieniec Ząbkowicki. She is remembered as an independent princess 👑, a scandalmonger, a philanthropist, and a "good lady." But there is a story in her life that is much less frequently told.
🌍 In 1849, Marianna of Orange set off on a journey to southern Europe and the Middle East. In Alexandria, she stumbled upon a slave market. Shortly thereafter, she bought a boy of about 15 years from Nubia and took him with her to Europe.
💰 She paid 120 or 150 guilders for him – a huge sum at the time.
❓ Did she want to save him?
❓ Could the purchase of a human being be seen as an act of liberation in the 19th century?
❓ And what actually happened to this boy later?
This story becomes even more surprising when we consider the dates. 📅 Just a few weeks earlier, Marianna had given birth to her own son, Willem, in Sicily. Less than two weeks later, she left the child in the care of a wet nurse and continued her journey.
🎥 In this episode of HiHistory, I try to look at Marianna of Orange not as a monumental figure, but as a human being.
There's 💔 an unhappy marriage to Albert of Prussia, betrayals, a ban on residence in Prussia, ❤️ a great love for Johannes van Rossum, an illegitimate child, 🌍 travels across Europe and the Middle East, 🏰 Kamieniec Ząbkowicki, and a palace whose construction took over three decades.
And at the center of this story remains a boy from Nubia.
❓ Did Marianna save him?
❓ Or perhaps we view this history completely differently today than people living in the mid-19th century?

Marianna Orańska kupiła w Aleksandrii około 15-letniego chłopca z Nubii i zabrała go do Europy. Jej biografowie przedstawiają to jako wyrwanie go z niewoli. Ale przecież nadal ktoś za niego zapłacił.
I właśnie dlatego najbardziej jestem ciekawa Waszej opinii:
Uratowała go czy kupiła?
A może obie te odpowiedzi są po części prawdziwe?
Piszcie, co o tym sądzicie — spróbujmy jednak spojrzeć na tę historię także oczami ludzi żyjących w połowie XIX wieku.
