- The Hawaiian shirt is not a 100% reward, you unlock it simply after beating the final boss.

Italy + Hawaii = Isle Delfino.

It's the perfect summer game. People should appreciate games that try to be unique in that way. We don't need every game to have mass appeal.

My favorite 3D mario game of all. I was eager to hear another one of your reviews

I love Sunshine for what it is. As a kid I was able to figure things out, experiment and progress, a level of patience a lot of people clearly don’t have.

Never got the sudden hate for it

I’ve never understood the complaint that Sunshine lacks variety in its level themes. No two levels look or sound alike, they’re all unique despite the overarching theme

Haven't even watched more than a minute, and I'm remembering all the fun, the serenity, ~ THE PLINKO MACHINE ~ the relaxing atmosphere, etc.

1:14 MAN this had to have been the greatest summer of all time, what a banger lineup of games!!!

Sunshine is easily the 3D Mario game I played the most. I think Mario has never controlled as buttery smooth as he does here. Firstly, he doesn't have that strange acceleration he has in other games. He's top speed right away. And he stops on a dime too. And that spin jump is a game changer.
But most of all is Isle Delfino. I really, really enjoy that Sunshine depicts a cohesive world that people could feasibly live in. There are tons of NPCs and their dialog changes as the story progresses. It's not a series of obstacle courses floating in a void. They're places. You can see each level from each other. Each level tells a small story and the area changes with each Shine Sprite. It's so good.

The ending transitioning to the track chefs kiss

This is amazing. It’s great to have a thoughtful video on Super Mario Sunshine.

Oh trust me there's an order, there's always an order.

Being able to more or less fly as Mario with a water jetpack was just coolest thing I’d ever seen as a ten year old. It’s part of that GameCube magic for me. Nintendo was just oozing with creativity back then. This and Luigi’s Mansion, talk about night and day, and both completely nailing the vibes they were going for. This is still peak Mario for me. The world and gameplay alone made me feel like I was there, like that was me on screen. It was a game that somehow made it seem like I had an impact on the world around me. The only other game that ever came close to that was Dishonored, and it took ten years to get there. Excellent video.

In a way the fact that games are thought controversially of its quality can really shine in its nuance, especially when the rating is about a game or movie media. It makes people think about our reasoning, sometimes justified, sometimes ignorant or depraved of intersectional thinking.

Mario Sunshine really got my appreciation (as a young teenager), despite I have grown into YT critics that have found the game weird or too challenging. I accepted that, making me think it's a bad game, just one I still liked. Also because of it's challenge.

The last decade really shined in valuing Mario Sunshine. Especially the last weeks, almost feeling like the criticism back then was probably made too personal and made it's quirks more a reason to hate than to love, like the difficulty. The recent retrospectives feels more justifiable, my undermined appreciation and love for Mario Sunshine actually got out, and I love that the YT landscape really have made people more positive with critical thinking. I can understand that YT uploaders from more than a decade ago wanted to share their thoughts because of their thoughts on thinking MSunshine is a bad game. Which nowadays is concluded differently, probably praised with the same exact reasoning but feeling so very different about it. One can say MSunshine is weird and challenging for not liking it. Now it feels more like people love it because of its weirdness and challenges. Also because the game is made with love and intrinsic creativity.

But really love that shift.

As someone who grew up with Mario Sunshine and considers it to be one of his favorite, if not favorite, games, because of the nostalgia, immersion and sheer beauty of the game, this entire video resonates STRONGLY with me. I've always had the same thought about imagining it as an open world game if it were released today. Also, Mario controls better than in any other 3D Mario. I can definitely see how it was polarizing at the time - I don't know if I had loved it if I had grown up playing 64 and expected a straight sequel. But I was young enough when it was released (7) to appreciate the game in its own right. It's one of those games, along with Paper Mario TTYD, that I replay from start to finish every couple years or whenever the toll of adulthood is particularly draining and I need an escape. Fantastic analysis of what makes this game great, even 23 years later.

My favorite Mario game 🔥

25:10 The paint always reminded me of the Trix yogurt from when I was a kid. Glad to see I wasn't the only one lmao

a PERFECT video to start my summer vacation 😎😎😎

Great video! There will never be a game quite like it for better or worse. It’s exactly that nonsensical charm it has with its glitchy physics and sadistic level design in certain areas that makes it really special. Despite how chaotic it is, I never grow tired of the trouble in paradise vibes I constantly get with this game. It truly is a one of a kind game and it will forever be one of my favorite childhood video games.

Also your frustrated rant with certain in-game aspects was funny…as awesome as this game is, its also really fun to dunk on it!
