I don't have a pellet grill. Been using multiple offset stick burners ( worked my way up to a Moberg 250 gal 6 years ago)and a "True original" PK Grill for over 50 years. I still enjoy watching all your videos. I'm subscribed & rang the bell, but didn't see a video last Sunday. Hope all is well.......CHEERS from SETX !!

Can confirm on the typhur probes. I have the exact same probe set up as yours. Last month, my #1 probe went bad, and Typhur had a probe in the mail the next day. Their customer service is top shelf.

I have been using a pellet BBQ for 15 years. I'm on my third and last one. Your video of the day strikes home so much. These are good rules to live/cook by. Thank you

The advice is spot on. I used a smoke tube in my gas grill for about a year before jumping into an electric vertical pellet smoker. Got good results with the grill, but the smoker was on a different level and was stupid easy to use. For my 2nd cook I used additional smoke tube to bump the flavor profile with extra apple wood for my pork. Spectacular results! Been a year with the smoker now and I'm gonna re-vitalized the grill or replace it.

It’s a pet peeve of mine when a person ask me to like and subscribe in the 1st minute of some I did not watch yet 😂

I have had different smokers over the past 40 years. Charcoal and propane and did some amazing food from brisket, ribs, cured and smoked pork belly and ham. I just got my first pellet grill a Recteq 1600. Love it but what you say is spot on!

Your information gave me pause, common sense but was not applying it. Thank you.

Pellets: Bear Mountain is my goto after doing my own experiments (with ribs every night over a week). Note that it's not just the brand but the type of pellet. Mesquite is quite strong compared to the oak, hickory, etc even on a pellet grill. Beyond the common wood pellets there is Knotty Wood which uses almond and plum wood. That boosts the smoke flavor but has a lot more ash/clinkers and it's more expensive. Recently I found pecan shell pellets. Again these are expensive but give off more smoke flavor. For my typical brisket cook I will put a layer of the pecan shell and/or the Knotty wood that will last 4-6hrs followed by Bear Mountain oak. This gives me more smoke flavor while the meat is still taking on smoke but using the more economical pellets for the remaining time. I've never had any luck with smoke tubes. YMMV.

You have great content! I had a Camp Chef for years, but last year you convinced me to buy a Yoder YS640, what a difference - THANKS. Have you ever used Smoking Pecan Pellets?

Great video, solid points. I have a P&S Maverick 850 and have no complaints. Have you seen the new P&S hopper cover? It will solve one aspect of the cooking in the weather problem 🙂

I use 3 vertical smokers and my (Cold spots) are in different places on all 3. I may have 3 butts ready to wrap, and the other 3 (all in one smoker) are in various stages, with temps 25° or so lower…gets maddening. My oversize pizza spatula has been a game changer as I can move them around more easily without tearing the butts to pieces just by picking them up with insulated gloves

Good vid. These were all pretty good thoughts, IMO. I own an offset, a WSM, a Traeger and a couple of Weber Kettles. Been smoking food for nearly 40 yrs. The quality of my finished food, is consistently better on the WSM or offset, than the pellet grill. (Definite confirmation from the family and friends who eat it.)The amount of fiddling around with vacuuming, changing drip trays, running a cord to where I use it, etc, is over the top stupid compared to my other options. I like the Traeger for doing overnight brisket cooks, but otherwise it is mostly just my outdoor oven. The WSM is pretty much a set it and go to bed for the night, I think a pellet grill is a good tool to have in the garage, but it is my least used grill, except in specific situations. I feel like pellet grills are best aimed for people who like to eat BBQ, but don’t enjoy the actual cook process as much. They also don”t get ripping hot for grilling a steak, or searing burgers. I would recommend (and do, because I sell grills part time) a Weber Genesis and a couple of 12” smoke tubes, 8 times out of ten for the “One grill owner type”, who is an anti charcoal shopper. If Weber knew how many people I have explained the Minion method to, sent them out the door with one of their charcoal cookers, 500-1000 dollars still in their pocket, and thanked me later, they would send me a side of beef.

I've got a box store pellet grill with a decent pid. The absolute best thing i did to it was buy a high torque auger motor and fixed auger motor mount from smoke daddy. I'm not going to say it has no swing but it helps a lot. I also use lumberjack pellets and store them in a 5 gallon bucket
