Steven Bartlett, host of the Diary of a CEO podcast here on YouTube, has written a book that apparently explains the 33 laws of Business and Life. I was bemused to find that I actually owned this book myself...in hardback.

Steven has been referred to by the New Statesman as someone that has an Empire of Bluff. ‪@barryseconomics‬ said that Diary of a CEO wants you to fail. I decided to read the book myself to make up my own mind. Does Steven Bartlett want you to fail?

Spoiler - yes, I think he does. His book tries to reduce everything down to simple formulas that anyone can follow. Actually, we don't live in a meritocracy. Often it's your background, your environment, and sometimes just plain luck that decides whether you will be successful not.

As I read through the book, I came to the conclusion that it is actually insidious. The book wants you to turn your attention inwards and at your own flaws rather than at inequality in society.

If you believe it’s your fault, then you focus on yourself. Then you need more self help. You need to watch his podcasts. You need to eat his nutritionally complete gruel. You need to visit his website, and join his mailing list, and attend the talks that he puts on. I think that this is his actual business model.
