The Levorg model name, as the company explains, is a combination of the words "LEgacy," "reVOlution," and "touRinG."
In June 2014, sales of the new Subaru Levorg station wagon began in Japan, replacing the Legacy Touring Wagon in the brand's lineup. However, the Levorg is significantly smaller than the latest generation of this model—its dimensions are comparable to the previous one. Thus, Subaru follows Toyota, which was one of the first to abandon the idea of increasing the size of its Corolla family cars during generational changes.
Downsizing is evident not only in the dimensions but also in the technical specifications. The base engine is the new FB16 boxer engine with a displacement of 1.6 liters. It's worth noting that this powertrain is comparable in performance to 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engines, thanks to turbocharging and direct fuel injection. The top-of-the-line engine is the 2.0-liter FA20. All-wheel drive is standard, and the transmission is the proprietary Lineartronic CVT.
In May 2016, Subaru unveiled the STI version of the Levorg. The car received numerous minor modifications from the STI catalog, but the powertrains remained the same. STI modifications to the Levorg include chassis enhancements: a special DampMatic II suspension with Bilstein shock absorbers, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a modified electric power steering. In addition, the car received a special aerodynamic body kit with different bumpers, LED fog lights, chrome muffler tips, a two-tone interior with STI logos and an optional WR Blue Pearl body paint.
