It was very smart decision to leave the crab walk out of the movie, it really shows the man in the suit. I do think the alien being sat at the door though is insanely creepy though. Alien will always be my favourite sci fi horror movie.

My favourite part of Alien was always the scenes on the planet, both in and out of the ship and the exploration of the derelict. I could happily watch another 15-20 mins of that stuff, especially if most of that was exploration and discovering new and interesting things. It's all just so atmospheric and intriguing, and I've always wished they could have explored more rooms before the egg chamber. Same reason I really enjoy a lot of Prometheus, because the initial landing and exploration is so atmospheric and incredibly interesting. I feel like movies these days don't take their time with this stuff, they don't invite us to explore with the characters for very long, we instead tend to get much shorter scenes but more exposition.

@5:14 "..nightmare without end ..."
Smart to leave out that Alien "Crab-Walk" scene .. it really did give away the "man in a costume" vibe.
The actual scene used in the movie where Lambert is confronted by the Alien , with its slo-mo , very alien like arm movements combined with the amazing soundtrack
is imho, the scariest shot in all the Alien series. Lambert's acting truly captured moment.
The Aliens tail going up between the legs along with Lambert naked legs being seen by Ripley after the Alien attack adds another dimension of super creep-out!

Thank you for this interesting series. I know I'd rather see the deleted scenes from Alien than actually see any more new alien films, All of which are cheap imitations of the original IMHO. I have no idea why, but I've always been interested in the fact that the only food mentioned an Alien and Aliens is cornbread. It seems like such an odd little detail.

Such an interesting series, thank you for putting this all together. I've loved the movie since it premiered, and keep learning new things about it even now.

I'm surprised the crab walk style hasn't been utilized in anything...it's kinda cool cause the spiked tail is stretched out in front of him

I would suggest special Academy Award, that could be called Film Masterpiece and there should be one film awarded every few years that was best in many ways and sustained the test of time. Alien (1979) should be the first one!

Back in'79, once I got over my initial freaked - the - heck out self, I wanted to see an all in special version (as these current videos do) to fill in and answer all the original cut questions I was left with. I read Dan O' Bannon's book back then and was fully intrigued by the airlock scene! I mean, they were hastily trying to find ANY way to eliminate it, and it revealed more of it's physical and mental abilities.
I think it would have been good to have released BOTH the original AND an extended version and let the public decide which to see.

This film is masterpiece and should be awarded by The Academy.

The best sci-fi horror movie, ever! 😮 ❤

10:40 Ridley Scott said The 'Box Alien' was the shape the of the Alien when transforming from Chestburster to Adult form. The Alien Explorations blog has an article on that.

The real loss of the eggmorphing scene was a solidly stupid move. It explains a small morsel of the biology of the Alien which would’ve heightened its terrifying potential.

Its clear from the footage why Lambert's death scene was cut. The xenomorph's movements are slow and its shown too clearly - rendering it less effective. Strange it took so long to shoot it.

I have always wondered, how did Ripley not notice that Ash had entered the computer room when she found out that the crew was expendable? That door makes noise when opened from outside.

This has been a fascinating series, it's been interesting to get a more in depth look at Alien & it's deleted material. I wouldn't mind seeing a further series delving into Alien 3.

TBH, I don't need a longer version of ALIEN. I like that the Director's Cut provided answered questions as to what happened to Dallas and a dew other details, but I feel little need to continue with the franchise. IMHO, almost nothing will compare to Ridley Scott and James Cameron in their top form. Anything following their efforts feels like desperate cash-grabs trying to breathe life into a story, though well told, that should be allowed to be laid to rest.

I'm happy that I've followed ALIEN from the beginning. I'm happy with watching the originals on DVD from time to time.

@6:11 Even as unused footage, when i first saw that crab-walking, i was creeped out. Because it’s unnatural — y’know, “alien?” In my mind i was likening it to the reverse-spider-walking in the Director’s Cut of “The Exorcist.” Joe Rogan found it hilarious, which sort of undercut it for me. That clip’s on YT.

@17:29 Right here —👋 — me. Some movies and characters are so good that spending more time with them is worth it. If there were a 10hr cut of The Fellowship of the Ring, people would watch it. Aliens, Goodfellas, The Empire Strikes Back, etc. At a certain level of Excellence, everyone would be okay with longer editions of some movies.

Side note: that food stores scene is dumb and i’m glad that was cut. I know it’s in the novel. Like, in my mind, i’m connecting it to a cat, lol. ‘Oh, it ate human food and now it’s fat.’ 🙄😒
