I'm torn between being really glad I watched this video and hating myself for pushing "play". Now I will stay far far away from The Plague Dogs story, but I could have lived forever without knowing so many details!🤦

All tomorrows was the first scifi cosmic horror after lovecraft

I read Battle Royale two times, first in Highschool for fun and then in sociology 2 in college.

There is an interesting piece of information from the book that is not explained well outside Japanese.  At the end of the book you learned a piece of geography explaining where the Main characters used to live and where the death Island is located.  Throughout most of the book it feels like you’re in a dystopian version of Japan only to find out the entire time everyone is from North Korea.

In English it says a random high school class every year but in Japanese it says one of the five high school class every year. Mid way through the story in English it say that every single student had a regular education for survival.  In Japanese it’s state the elite of the countries future because everyone that works under the party is a slave to the great leader.

What’s crazier is the main character say they have to go through china to sneak their family out of the country.  If they lived in Japan, they would have to go by boat, not land through China.

A friend of mine from Japan had to translate the original book from Japanese for me to find all the hidden pieces of information that lost in translation.

A really interesting piece of information is also lost in the translation is the name of each chapter in the book.  It only says different numbers in order in English but in Japanese each chapter’s name is from a Bruce Springsteen song.  There’s a lot more Bruce Springsteen references in the original Japanese ironically compared to the English version.  It’s a weird piece of information that I believe should’ve been in the English translation.

I wanted to contradict blindsight after first read. I didn't want to think that human sentience and emotion is what hinders progress. I wanted to believe that it is the very reason our society made it as far as we have. Until I thought about what humans are fundamentally. Nothing more than millions of small non-sentient beings working in unison to create our existence. It's hypocritical. Why do we get to make decisions, feel emotions when the bacteria and cells of our body sacrifice themselves every day, without ever feeling love. If progress is inevitable and the most efficient way to progress is to succumb to a higher being, then where does that leave us?
