AD Rock was on the horse Paul Revere, with a quart of beer,on the run for that mess w the sherriff's daughter, ran into MCA who was on the run for 4 days, and was thirsty, MCA pulled the shotty and said I can blow you away or you can roll w me. They mobbed for 6 hours and hit this spot. Took some empty seats next to Mike D who MCA knew. Mike D pulled the stick up. Mike D grabbed the money, MCA grabbed the gold, AD Rock Grabbed two girls & a beer and they all bounced out.

The beat on this track is absolutely sick and totally unique for the times.

This was the first rap album to hit #1 on the charts in 1986. Beastie Boys were also responsible for getting LL Cool J signed to Def Jam, so he credits them with his career. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll HoF in 2012, and LL followed in 2022.

Play this on a loud system. You’ll FEEL that reverse bass

Grew up on a military base with predominantly minorities and everyone was F’N with the Beastie Boys in 86. Black, white, Latino, Asian…. We all knew every verse of this song

Beastie Boys. Those guys are the untouchables of hip hop history. Nothing can touch them.

This song actually has insane bass, its just so low you are never going to hear it with headphones. You need a big sub to really hear it hit.

Fun fact..
the album cover has an airplane ✈️ with call letters that says
“Eat me” backwards;)

Eminem said they were a massive influence to him. He said he used to play this cassette so much that he broke it. When MCA passed from cancer, ALL the big names talked about how awesome they were..

Em, Dre, Snoop, Ice Cube, LL just to name a few. In fact, LL Cool J was introduced to the record company because of the Beastie Boys.

I was around 10 when this came out. Those were the days. Beat boxing, turn tables, break dancing, clean lyrics and most lyrics were about how you were the best mc. I was hooked on them from then on and they got me through so many bad times and still do. RIP MCA.

They were young and carefree. This was just some storytelling about not giving an eff.

No rules. The album was called, License to Ill. The first track was called, Rhymin' & Stealin'.

They were punk kids living by a loose moral code. It's probably hard to listen to this song for the first time as a grownup. It was angsty and rebellious.

And nobody had ever written or spat anything like this with anything like this kind of delivery.

This was some pioneer shit. Kinda like the wild west.

You have to listen to this with some 5' House speakers that throw the vibrations through your body.

The reverse beat: The story goes ...while Mike D was playing around with the tr-808 drum machine. MCA came up with the idea of recording the beat, bouncing it to another tape, flipped it around and bounced it back to the multi-track tape. MCA was the mastermind that made this a sure hit!

This is the second rap I ever memorized as a 9 year old.

53 years old here and still know all the words to this. Love to see the younger generations discover the Beastie Boys, I wore my vinyl album of this out hahaha
