I never met BabyMetal -- the girls and the guys in the band. But I did meet the Maids. Each of the girls had this otherworldly, iconic beauty that left me moved to this day. There's something extraordinary about Kanami, Saiki, Miku, MISA and Akane that goes beyond their music. I don't know. Maybe it's their light... their presence... their innocence. Whatever it is, I hope they never lose it. I don't think they will because they're also genuine. Thx, Shadic! 🤘🎀🤘
I'm a Band-Maid fan but I totally get what you mean. BabyMetal is like once in a life time kind of experience. It's more than just music. However I think once would be enough. With Band-Maid, it's a raw, live music experience with some entertainment aspect. The music performance and MC are completely different. Band-Maid music is more for music nerd so audience is very attentive rather than being immersed in the atmosphere. They've got so many great songs with different intros or mid section and make you crave for more. If they appear at the same festival(s) I'd definitely go. Band-Maid plays Band-Maid music literally. Both have the different but distinctive presence, and BabyMetal has the appeal to wider demographic of audience while being niche at the same time. To sum up, I'd see Band-Maid for their music, BM for the show experience. It's l just me though.
Both bands are different, but great at the same time. Great music. In have both on many play lists, however, I'm a Maidiac. If both bands passed through my city, I would see them, but they don't (Luleå- far north of Sweden.) Baby Metal came to Stockholm but I chose to see Band-Maid in Berlin...... F%#king great concert. It would be cool to see Baby Metal, but economics, location and personal preference dictates. "Gimme Chocolate" introduced me to Band-Maid, and it will always be one of my "all time" favourite songs.
I enjoyed Band-Maid more because they were a solo concert. Sitting through other groups I don't care about.. it doesn't ruin it, but it takes something out of it.
You have some opening group 'everyone make some noise!!' I don't even know who you are.
I believe that Su-metal’s singing voice and way of speaking serve as excellent learning material. It is rare to find someone of her age capable of singing with such clear Japanese pronunciation; even without a lyric sheet, every single word resonates distinctly and beautifully. I wonder if the same holds true for her English singing. Her natural poise—which transcends mere choreography—is said to stem from innate talent rather than instruction from dance teachers. In fact, footage of her singing before the age of ten reveals that her graceful hand movements and clear pronunciation were already as refined then as they are today.
Thanks for sharing. I just saw Band-Maid in New York. I think it’s kind of the difference between idols and a more conventional band. Babymetal has a very polished image and is very much about spectacle, and Band-Maid is a group of girls who work very hard, but don’t take themselves too seriously. It’s a concert, but it’s also basically a comedy show. One concert, Kanami gave Miku a Pocky to eat, and after she ate it, they told her Misa stuck it up her nose. Idols can’t do that kind of thing.
I’d fallen out of love with rock for a while, since the genre had gotten a lot more negative and angry, but Band-Maid brought me back. They brought back that original feeling of rock being about freedom and self-expression. There’s a line in Warning, “I came here to be me,” and that’s what they do. They’re a bunch of honestly kind of weird people, having fun doing what they dreamed of doing and sharing that feeling with us.
Fortunate enough to see both in concert last year. Baby Metal very polished one singing two dancing. Extremely good band. Band-Maid are themselves. These ladies are on a different level. The music is incredible, greatest band ever. They do their own thing and everyone has fun.
I have seen both bands live - Once (1) for Babymetal and four (4) times for Band-Maid...I agree with your opinion of BabyMetal - It was a Big Show event - Very polished and Dramatic... I found that the members were more like actors in a play. Fun to watch and listen but I ended up that night wondering if they actually enjoy being on stage? As for Band-Maid I find that they have a more personal touch with their audience. The ladies like to laugh and they really enjoy playing their music on a stage in front of their fans.. BOTH performances of these two bands were a great deal of fun to attend and I enjoyed every minute of it! I found BabyMetal first and I got hooked on their musical performance. However, when I found Band-Maid (a couple of years later) , they made a bigger impression on me! Thanks for this video and your experience with both bands... Peace & Respect from Canada!
I missed my chance to see Band Maid, and it’s going to be a while before they come back to somewhere near me, but I saw Babymetal twice and I liked the show a little better at the larger venue. It gave the choreography more room.
Are there mosh pits at Bandmaid shows? Bandmaid is more rock, Babymetal more metal. But I guess the biggest difference is, as you say, that Babymetal performances are polished perfection, Banmaid spontaneous fun. But at the Babymetal concert in Toronto I attended, the intereactions with the crowd, especially in Metali, did seem very genuine and spontaneous.
I would have loved to see BABYMETAL in 2016, but unfortunately I didn't get a chance until 2025. I went to the show at 713 Music Hall (Houston). Entering the venue was difficult as I use a walker and the guards debated as to how to shake me down (I was wearing a T shirt/athletic shorts). As soon as the show started I saw that Koba regarded BABYMETAL's appearance as a show, not just a concert. Halfway through the show, a person with a giant size wheelchair, including oxygen tanks, monitors and handlers appeared and security told me I would have to move up to the nosebleed section. After the show, I was unable to catch my Uber near the entrance (security again) and would have to move to the "cab stand." Unfortunately, that area was completely taken up with independent drivers selling vastly overpriced rides (one of them tried to sell me a 75 dollar ride-Uber was charging me 20 bucks), so I had to move halfway down the block and wave down my thoroughly confused Uber driver.
There are many world-class groups in Japan. For example, "One OK Rock," "Hanabie," "Lovebites," and many others. While rock music was said to be declining in popularity as its rebellious nature intensified, a famous American musician has noted that Japanese rock is beginning to shift that trend. I highly recommend watching their official live videos and enjoying the performances.
I can agree with a lot of those observations about the two having seen them both. I've only seen Babymetal with Kami Band West, who basically followed a script note for note, where Kami Band East did a lot more "outside the box" arrangements (at least on their videos) that would be more akin to how Band Maid operates live. Which Band Maid show did you go to? This was the second one for me in Atlanta.
Well, for starters, BAND-MAID is a rock band—some might call it punk, others metal or even hard rock... it doesn't matter, the important thing is that they’re a great band, with musicians who play their own instruments and write their own music. 😎 BABYMETAL, on the other hand, is part of a corporation... a choreographic group, with an army of top-tier soldiers of fortune backing them up and a team of songwriters crafting their tracks. 🧐 Dude, in your comparison, there is only one true J-rock band.😉 I suggest listening to bands like WAGAKKI BAND or ONMYOUZA; if you felt that the cheap experience represented by BABYMETAL transported you to Japan, I’m dying of curiosity to see what the real deal will do for you.🤔
