"Common for people that are new to gyro aiming"

Me who has been playing since 2015 always using motion and still wave aims constantly:
Ah, I knew it.
I am bad at videogames that I play consistently.

Can't use motion control due to general motor issues from autism (I have to adjust my whole self for comfort), but this also happens with stick aim as well

I sucked at the gyro, so I made a game:

I adjusted my gyro to be much slower on both gyro and stick and practiced running through the targets, turning around to hit them as I moved. I included the high up targets and moving targets as well, since they use the gyro much more. Every time I destroyed all the targets in quick succession 3 times in a row without "wave-aiming" (I wasn't aware that's what it was called), I would push the gyro and/or stick sensitivity up a bit to just beyond my comfort range. Eventually, my progress slowed and now I'm at a point where the gyro and stick both feel comfortable to me playing in real matches. I can aim super fast and I get kills very consistently in matchups now! =D

I guess the next thing I have to work on is positioning and avoiding flanks. I often find myself getting splatted by a flank while I'm distracted by the objective or trying to fight someone else. 1v2 kinda stinks, but I guess that means I should also team up more? Also, map awareness has always been an issue for me, too. I've backed off the stage a few more times than I'm comfortable admitting...

Another thing that helps is just practicing with weapons that literally can't get away with waveaiming. Trying that with the 96 for example will get you the occasional lucky splat but mostly you'll die a lot to splooshes and aerosprays running straight at you which should normally be free splats if you were just aiming properly.

I’ve made the switch to motion control after 5 years of stick playing (based on your recommendation). I reduced the sensitivity and used an e-liter during a turf battle and wow, even though I am not seasoned with the motion controls, I was making kills fairly accurately. I would have never thought motion was the answer to progressing. Full disclosure, I’ve also not studied game play either until recently. Anyways, thanks for the videos!

I practice this with snipers by charging the weapon, THEN snapping to an enemy and releasing the trigger. It's helped make my aim be much more reflexive since there's no room for mistakes. You either hit or you miss, no time for do-overs.

I noticed this in my own gameplay. When I am panicked, I just blindly wave my crosshair across the enemy. It's obviously bad so having a video and drills like this is helpful.

glad this video randomly showed up in my recommended. my wave-aiming is weird, it depends on what weapons i play, but whenever i play splatling it gets way worse. i'd recognized the problem for a long time but never knew how to get to fixing it.

i also recommend calibrating your aim occassionally (not "calibrating your controller")...

take 5 minutes, crank up the sensistivity to 5, then do some "splat boxing" through 5 different pillows (tap fire while running/swimming, trying to land the first shot and not pop them).  you'll know immediately how many shots you hit versus how many you miss. then drop the sensistivity a tick or two and repeat.

It will be easier... until it feels like molasses and you start doing worse... once you've gotten there, just set your sensistivity to where you had the most successfull instinctive tap shots.

you now know what sensitivity you're most coordinated to handle at the moment.  i've found it changes from time to time... sometimes my control is sluggish, other times it's sharp.

after all we're not machines

Your videos are great and educational as a competitive player who’s been playing for 5 years it’s nice to revise on things I know

I made the switch from stick controls about 6 months ago in S2. Went from feeling uncomfortable to aiming with ease with max sensitivity. It’s a learning curve but one you’ll never regret.

Since splatoon was my first shooter, I learned motion aiming very quickly. Now, I don't think I can even use the stick aiming

I've heard this called, "spray and pray" since the Doom II era. Seems even more apt a term in Splatoon!

your videos are always so informative and consistently they cover things i didn’t know (been playing since splatoon 1, but this is the first time i’ve wanted to become super good at a splatoon game)

I think casually picking up a charger and trying that out can help break the wave aiming. Or a weapon that fires significantly less.

It's called spray and pray

2:19 This is how I practiced flicking with a sniper. I'd charge it, and then flick and shoot. Because of how the snipers paint, it's really easy to tell if I flicked too far or not far enough, and I could readjust accordingly.

This happens with sticks as well. Great advice overall

remember people, its a rifle, not a flamethrower.

I'm going to be honest, I think you're definitely the best Comp player, who makes content around advice. A lot of other players making that kind of Content I run into have a hostile vibe, where they call people trash, and all that, for just trying to learn
