Very interesting video, I appreciate the pastebin transcript too so we're able to go back to the questions and really think them over in a written format :)

1. I'd probably say macro/meso, although I'd like to improve my micro skill and I'd rank meso below macro
2. I want to be the one controlling the enemy team. In an ideal match, my teammates would never even see the enemy team, since they'd be in the respawn queue the whole game. I want to be forcing fights where I have an advantage, always dictating the pace of the match. I also like moving around a lot, never being in the same place for more than a couple seconds. Basically run in, splat them before they notice, get out.
3. I would want the enemy team to be forced to engage with me, although I'd less say I want them to fight me as I want them to be fought by me. I say this to mean I want to be initiating all my battles, and ideally would be shooting at them before they even noticed I was there. I want to define where the enemy team is playing by forcing them into positions where we have an advantage.
4. The enemy could counter me by evading me, getting the jump on me, putting me in a bad situation (like a 2v1), or simply beating me in a fight.
5. I'm not very experienced with team roles, but I would want my team holding space I take and completing the objective. Maybe also another frontliner to assist me in forcing favorable situations.

I've been playing mostly dualies and shooters (mostly just dualies, I like dodgerolling and being hard to hit) because I just like the way they work the most.

I love talking about the game in terms of playstyles, I'm surprised it took me so long to find this video, it's a really good one! I also like learning about others' play styles so this comments section was fun to look through

I describe my playstyle (on wellstring) as map control through paint and chip damage. I want to be applying constant pressure to spots where the enemy wants to go, so they either have to take less advantageous positions or get chipped and have a disadvantage at the frontline.

1. to me this is very macro, as I'm often looking at paint control and where the frontline is to decide the game state and where I should be applying pressure, but I also care a lot about the micro as quick repositioning and adjusting how much I charge my weapon matters a lot. the meso aspect is usually too difficult to look at between focusing on the macro analysis and micro decisions

2. map control and pressure is my fav aspect of the game

3. I want the enemy team to constantly feel my presence, I want them to be constantly chipped and seeing my arrows land around them throughout the game, but for them to underestimate me and instead focus on my teammates

4. I think the way to shot me down is by applying pressure back to me, whether it be by rushing me down or just chucking bombs at me. I often have to take less safe positions to have max impact, I'm often in low ground unlike most backlines. while I can deal with someone rushing me down or dodge a few bombs, it reduces my uptime and can force me to choose between getting distracted or getting splatted

5. I want my team to take attention away from me and to combo off of my chip damage. I want them to react quickly to the advantage I create and to take the openings when they come up, so I can follow them and continue to increase our map control

this was so helpful to think through! I'll especially keep 3 and 4 in mind for self-reviews and 5 for team strategizing. thanks for the vid!

When you were discussing examples of your teammates’ playstyles, what are their weapon pools? I think knowing what weapons they play would form a key piece of how they execute their playstyle and help me understand the concept more

I’m mostly new to Splatoon; Raider’s got me interested. This video is clearly a high-quality resource. Do you have any other channels you’d recommend?

Good stuff. Here’s my answers.

Inkbrush:

1. Macro. I like directing the flow of the game, creating momentum, and using a few well-timed picks to completely swing the game in my team’s favor.
2. Living in their walls. Being behind players. Keeping them frustrated. Being annoying.
3. I want them to be scattered, desynchronized, and unable to form a coordinated push in the objective.
4. They can do 1 of 3 things, in order of most favorable for me to least favorable for me: a) ignore me and try to keep me zoned out from the rest of their team (best for me). b) actively target me with an arbitrary amount of resources, such as by attempting to pincer me or corner me (could go either way). c) 1v1 me in an open or unplanned setting and try to mech-diff me (good players deal with me best this way and it’s something I’m constantly trying to improve at).
5. I need the team to be focused on anything BUT me. Be anywhere BUT where I am. And most importantly, be focused primarily on winning team fights, taking key space, and pushing the objective. If the team is busy helping me out, I’m not really helping them out. If they’re focused on the objective, being patient and looking for opportunities to advance, then even just a little momentum I generate can swing the game in our favor.

It's a bit late for this comment, but I'd like to write down my answers to these questions anyways as a fun exercise! For context, these are my answers for when I'm playing with my competitive team, but I'd actually have rather different answers for solo play. I typically play mid-range slayer/support options like Slosher, Rapid Pro, S-Blast, or 96 Gal.

1. Macro-Mesa. I'm constantly reading the map, special charge, and player states to figure out my next action, and I try to predict what my enemies and teammates are about to do so I can punish/capitalize on it.

2. My favorite thing in this game is "identifying/creating/capitalizing off of opportunities." Things like getting a sneaky pick on an enemy when they're just slightly overextended and don't expect it. Or using some of my team's paint in enemy territory to pull off a quick flank and pincer. The best cases are when I'm working with my teammate, either distracting the enemy so my teammate can slay or vise versa.

3. I want the enemy to constantly be aware of my presence. If I'm on the field, they should feel the need to back up/play safer, or else get picked and cornered. I love seeing my enemies retreat and give up territory specifically because I'm nearby. Or, I love when my enemies don't notice what I'm doing, and get punished for it.

4. The more careful/aware the enemy is, the more difficult it is for me to punish them for mistakes. My playstyle is mostly about playing innocent and neutral when there's no advantage, and then quickly capitalizing on some opportunity, but that can't happen if there is no opportunity to begin with. I think this means I should focus on creating opportunities on my own using micro advantages, and also learn how to be impactful even at a disadvantage. The matches I've lost were always because I couldn't find or create any opportunity to attack the enemy, and didn't know how to win while under a significant disadvantage.

5. I want my team to be capable of following up on the opportunities I create. For example, I have a Dualies teammate that always goes in and gets kills/displaces the enemy whenever I'm drawing aggro. So I create/find an opportunity, and we capitalize on it together. Similarly, my backline and support are there to stabilize the game whenever we don't have an advantage, and to keep the map control/special state favorable until we can make an opening.

And that's my answer to each question! I'm a bit iffy on number 4, but at least it gives me some direction to start practicing with. Btw, in solo queue I'm typically a micro player that tries to win games purely off of mechanically outplaying the enemy, which I think is super fun and often easier than relying on my team for opportunities. Totally different from my competitive play style!

Uuuuuuuh...idk, I just know that i like Tri-Sloshers and doing both inking and splatting occasionally

1. Micro-Meso Hybrid
2. My favourite thing about the game is fighting enemy players, and I’d say fighting enemy players is what I’m best at doing in the game.
3. I want the enemy team to fight me. More specifically, I want the enemy team to have to get through me before they can even play objective at all. A tumour that must be removed, if you will.
4. The enemy team can stop my playstyle by avoiding me, but I can get into positions where they lose access to important routes out of spawn (Ex. Right Flank on Urchin Underpass) if they try to go around me. I can also use Splash Wall to tuck myself into corners of the enemy team’s spawn, meaning that I can shoot them from behind if they drop down from high ground.
5. While paint is appreciated, Ideally I’m working in an area so close to enemy spawn that my teammates shouldn’t be close enough to provide me paint on the floor. Instead, I would like my teammates to use their specials in a way that pushes the enemy team into me.

Idk about all those fancy terms but I like to describe my playstyle as kind of a ghost, I wanna establish myself as enough of a threat to the enemy team that that any time they can't see me they're wondering where I could be. Even if I'm not a constant thorn in their side, I want them to worry that I might be 🙏

1. Micro with a lil bit of meso
2. Fighting and winning fights in like 1v1 scenarios and then moving on to the next player to take that 1v1. I also take fights with opponents who have js won the fight against my teammate but are pretty low.
3. I want the enemy team to like separate from their team and come fight me so I can beat them and move onto he next person while my team can progress with the objective.
4. Jump my cheeks, outrange me or sub spam.
5.  I only play solo queue but I'm looking to get into comp but if I had to think of something id provably say like if my team could like paint around me so I can isolate my fights and possibly support me with the fight if things get rough for a couple of seconds.

Also it would help if you could give me recommendations for weapon mains. TYSM!!!

1 meso, macro
2 its been about a year since ive played... i, uhh, i like the weapons...
3 I dont want them to know im there, i just want them to die (meso)
4 blaster! (Sometimes), im a flingza roller main. Really just the whole team at once is bad, but 3 people i can at least stall
5 (Not comp) I want them to at least be able to call for my help, im ok at assisting due to rollers being able to keep paint on the ground for [Person] to use.

The sound is absolutely hideous

around 1:30, you start elaborating in depth about playstyles without having defined them whatsoever in the first place.. that really makes the rest of the video confusing af ._.

a preamble shouldn't skip the definition of key concepts to dive right in the subject.. I watched this twice end-to-end and i still can't form a clear idea or any takeaway from this

im the guy that started throwing at 11:40

I'm in a very odd spot. I have no Idea what my main weapon is. More accurately, I have no Idea what weapon my playstyle best suites and therefore no justification to stick to one type of weapon. Over the course of the last 3 years, I have played, in order: Tri-stringer, Reef-lux, splatana wiper, Carbon roller. I have enjoyed playing every single one of these weapons, but I know that playing so many weapons with such differing playstyles is not good when you want to improve (which I do), so I have no idea which one to stick with. My best answers to the questions laid out in the video are:

1) Macro/Mesa: I'm very good at knowing what is going on in a game and making plays based on what I know and what my opponents might do.
2) I am good at using mobility to my advantage and out-maneuvering my opponent, combined usually with keeping opponents where I want them (at my preferred range).
3) I want the opponent to take fights with me on MY terms and approach me, not me approach them, so that I can force them to take disadvantageous fights.
4) Usually what the enemy does to counteract this is to either ambush me or if they have map control, I have much less ways to make an advantageous fight for myself.
5) I don't play comp (yet), but usually I want my teammates to either make sure I don't get rushed down in the case of the first 2 to 3 weapons I listed, or paint in the case of carbon roller.

More individual nuances:
Tri-stringer: I like the speed, but I'm not a micro player, and that doesn't work well with the weapon with arguably hardest one shot in the game
Reef-lux: similar to tri-stringer, but less, since it has torpedo to compensate plus slow-ish kill time for its range value. Also, I've spent the longest on reef-lux, so i have the best micro on it.

Splatana wiper: slow kill time. Seems like the best one on paper, but the least success with it.
Carbon: Relies on the plays of my teammates, and less so on my own decision making. Spent the least time with it.

TLDR:
I  have no idea what type of weapon to play based on my playstyle, between long range backline, close range sharking, midline fighting, or midline support.
