The 'cup end' in the end cap didn't seem to fit the 'fat' end in the first video, about the weight one could argue that the solid rod has a piston attached inside and therefore could be the heavier part, disassembling the nitro cilinder would give a definite answer to that question but nobody wants to do that for good reason. This follow up video is something I didn't expect but I do like it, if in doubt find out! and you did.

If the rifle is stacked butt down the lubricant will well at the seal and keep it wet.
If fitted the other way the seal will dry out and will leak.
If you look at automotive use you will find when closed they all point down for the same reason.
I sent a sample gas ram rifle to Gamo 30 years ago when I worked for a factory making  auto rams in New Zealand.
They were the first to put them in air rifles.
I have put them in many air guns since.
Early  BSA Meteors are great with gas rams.

Crosman changed the way they fitted the piston during production. In theory they could reduce the amount of gas internally due to the extra mass/weight of the piston and keep the power/velocity the same. It was also claimed to reduce felt recoil and noise and make things smoother. Make of it what you will. Keep up the good work.

I maybe wrong but maybe cleaning the barrel before using the tin or plastic pellets might give a higher fps

Considering that the steel rod goes in to the cylindrr, when measuring balance point.
I would say that the rod is most heavy approx 60/40
