A radiant community leader with an unshakable faith spends her life helping former convicts start over, never imagining one of those second chances would end her life in the most horrifying way imaginable. After connecting through prison letters and forming a bond rooted in devotion and music, Lillias Landrum and Tony Smith pledge their lives to one another in a private ceremony. But behind closed doors, a toxic shift begins as control, financial ruin, and disturbing religious delusions take root, turning a sacred bond into a living nightmare.

When neighbors report a sickening odor drifting from their Akron home, investigators step into a crime scene beyond their worst nightmares: blood trailing into a dark basement, a severed body hidden behind the furnace, and a mind-bending crime executed with a household steak knife. As detectives race against time to track down a missing husband across state lines, sinister journal entries uncover a shocking plunge into dark fanaticism. This documentary traces the heartbreaking turn of events from a hopeful romance to a cold-blooded betrayal that left an entire community shattered.
