Hollywood liberalism is ready to save the world, or at least; in their own self-constructed fantasies. In reality though, the tropes that have emerged in these movies are actually what we need to get rid off.

"Don't seek power" said the ruling class that funds these movies. "Calls to action should scare you, unless they are perfectly vague. Only the system is safe, no matter how flawed."

Fun fact, in books, Jon Snow does want it. Badly. His whole existence is based in seeking recognition and legitimacy.

" there is good in the world Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for"
Hollywood: yeah let's subvert that

Convincing high-minded idealists not to seek power is a pretty effective way to keep high-minded ideals out of the halls of power.

The trope of "The antagonist is right but also a mass murderer so let's beat them up and forget all that talk about making things better" is an old classic. It's so prevalent and genuinely makes me angry when I see it now. I can't stand it anymore.

"Excessive proceduralism that only knows how to say 'no'"

Brilliant description.

“The phrase 'Someone ought to do something' was not, by itself, a helpful one. People who used it never added the rider 'and that someone is me'.” ― Terry Pratchett, Hogfather

I recently stumbled across a screenshot of a tweet that read: “essentially an enormous part of the reason that online leftist spaces suck so much is that they are filled with people who believe it is more important to do nothing wrong then it is to do something right.” I’ve been thinking about that constantly for almost a week.

"A virtue-signalling display of intent" pretty much sums up modern liberalism

15:19 It is really annoying how those stories always go, "Oh no I accidentally made the Anti-God! I guess this is what I get for trying to change the world for the better. I will henceforth never try that again."

Change the world, but only in a way that boosts shareholder value while signaling virtue.

Near the end of World War II, General Eisenhower—the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe—and General MacArthur, who held the same role in the Pacific, reportedly had a conversation. MacArthur told Eisenhower that one of the two of them was going to be president. Eisenhower replied that he was just a soldier following civilian orders and had given no thought to what might come after the war. He was simply doing his duty. MacArthur smiled and said, “That’s great, Ike. You keep that up—you’ll be president for sure.”

Palpatine also SAID he didn't want power. People who really don't want power tend to stay away from the inner circle who decides who is in power next. You don't want power? Yet you cling to what you have.

Working in healthcare, I see this in spades. The catchphrases and tokenism is wild. When it comes to the hard work that is required to create the community they desire, they opt for the simple posters and signs. Society of the spectacle sure comes to mind.

The fact that Gladiator was the first Oscar-winning movie for this century’s cinema may be all the more curious in retrospect.

I don't think wanting power is the problem as much as the lack of responsibility for the power.
Basically, Uncle Ben was right.

17:10 having Harrison Ford say THAT, when in Clear and Present Danger he refused to stay quiet about the cartels, refused the DC Two-Step with “I don’t dance” - it’s deeply troubling.
