Great find. Even 'collative learning' hasnt discovered this after years of studying Kubrick

Absolutely great catch Shim. I agree, something much deeper is going on with this costume shop.

This is very interesting. I think that this can be interpreted in a couple of ways: 1) Kubrick is showing us that this is a dream and in most dreams there is no logical way to segue from one scene to another. 2) It is some kind of inside joke on the actor or character Bill Hartford showing that although is a doctor, he is not very bright when it comes to practicality. So not only are the characters in the movie leading him around in the movie but also the Director. Kind of Mocking him directly.

I NEVER would have caught that.  After how many times seeing this movie, too.  Great work, as always

yep. good one. also Kubrick's Diamonds are on the stairs when Millitch comes out

I think it might symbolize that Dr. Bill has ended up on the other plane ('where the rainbow ends' or the visible light spectrum) into the infrared (maybe hell) or upside down world ('under the rainbow'). So the taxi becomes the ant on the Möbius strip, that goes around the loop (around the block), but ends up on the other side. Technically it is the same spot but it happens to be where two different dimensions meet and this is why we are seeing the 'seams' of that reality (or where the Möbius strip joins).

I used to think Eyes Wide Shut was filmed in NYC but after watching a documentary about Kubrick and his fear of flying, he pretty much filmed his movies in England at a studio when he moved to live there. He does send people out to take pictures of areas in NYC so he can create a realistic looking NYC neighborhood. I also figured the area where the Costume Shop wasn't real after I saw the street sign name and couldn't find that street in Google Maps as it turns out to be a fictional name.

Another example is The Shinning, which the Overlook Hotel exterior was filmed by a crew Kubrick sent to Oregon to film parts of the TImberline Lodge. Kubrick recreated part of the front area of that lodge at a studio in England and also built the hedge maze there in front of it.

This is due to filming in London. There are more examples of everything happening on the one street. But it also ties in with the dreamlike quality of everything. Recall the name of the book this movie is based on.

Hi Shim! This is a fascinating detail. "Under the Rainbow" is, of course, a riff on  The Wizard of Oz, where everything is a dream. And according to legend, there's a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. No idea what all this means, but I'm pretty sure it's something.

Also, Dizzy Gillespie was a very important jazz musician. Again, no idea if that means anything or not.

There is also a sign that reads "EROS", which means sexual desire.

Up until this moment I never realized Milich asked Bill… “looks alive doesnt it”?

Lookin at the mannequins

The New York streets were constructed at Pinewood Studios, England.  Huge custom-built sets of Greenwich Village streets were constructed there, meticulously detailed to match Manhattan.

Also, if you look, the coffee shop where Bill goes and reads about the overdose death of Mandy is the costume shop re-dressed.

"Where the rainbow ends" is a reference to the folklore that says that there is a pot gold at the end of the rainbow.
You can fill in the symbolism for yourself

I agree, psicodelic issue and optical ilusion. Great!

Just watching Gutfeld on Fallon tonight, and he tells story of the two of them and others,in NYC, taking a taxi ride around the corner to their destination in the Same Building!

Very very cool! Thanks for sharing.

Great find! I never noticed that before and have never seen it pointed out before.

Some have noted a Kubrick/ Pink Floyd connection. The Floyd were being considered for doing the music for 2001: A Space Odyssey before Kubrick decided to use classical pieces for the score. Their 1970 album, Atom Heart Mother can be seen sitting on a rack in a record store in A Clockwork Orange. Their 1973 masterpiece, Dark Side Of The Moon eerily syncs up with The Wizard of Oz and the album has one of the most famous covers of all time, that being a light prism against a black background. Strange rainbow connection there also. Another odd coincidence is that Bill's rich friend is named "Ziegler" which means " brick layer" in German. Pink Floyd The Wall brings to mind a brick layer as the story is about the protagonist building a wall around himself. The album also seems to hint at trauma based mind control with the protaganist "Pink" completely losing his identity and becoming some kind of alter personality when he is forced to appear on stage. Perhaps I am reaching here, but they are pretty neat coincidences.

Wow-fantastic video Shim-i never thought about that!!!! I think about this, are all the female encounter of doctor Bill mannequins of the rainbow fashion store?Keep going Shim, great videos from you!!!!!Byyye-Patrick.😉😉🥰🥰

The street where Domino first meets Bill is the same street which has the Rainbow store in it. There's no display or lights on. Yet, when he leaves Nick Nightingale and arrives at the Rainbow store, it is lit up with the mannequins back in place once more. Strange.

Great catch, Shim. Bravo. Only a Native New Yoker could have spotted that little detail, I reckon.

" And love
Love is just a passing word
It's the thought that you had
In Bill's taxicab that got left on the curb
When he dropped you off at East 83rd..."

Brilliant  observations ........this film is like unraveling an onion .....just goes on and on.
