I started watching Kubrick films last year and since then, I've been kinda obsessed with his works XD
It's hard to imagine how a single man made all those very different movies talking about all those important aspecta of life

“Russell Metty’s cinematography is incredible; he won the Oscar for it.”

While Metty did win the award, his actual contribution to the lighting is contentious since apparently Stanley took over for almost each setup.

ah you were so close to being right! 😂😂 shining and fmj are S tier for me. If there was something in between S and A tiers id put EWS there. interesting thing for me about kubrick is as ive aged, ive appreciated his films more. When i was an angsty teen i was all about clockwork orange and 2001 and honestly didnt like barry lyndon at all. Now that I'm a lot older i think it's a masterpiece. You literally need to become a better person to fully appreciate his work. No one else will ever be like him.

Paths of Glory and Barry Lyndon are both near-perfect films. The Shining is my favorite horror movie, Clockwork Orange my favorite "intense" film, and 2001 a visionary masterpiece decades ahead of its time. What a filmography!

Came to the comment section ready to argue and nitpick with your rankings, but I generally agree with your assessments. Well done.

One side note: I do believe that the final cut of Eyes Wide Shut was altered. Possibly to take out child sex trafficking elements, and other intense sexual overtones. The editing feels choppy and the audio unpolished at times. The timing of Kubrick's passing was indeed auspicious, only adding to the overall mystery of his final film.

The Shining is S tier,  Barry Lyndon gets better as it ages,  Paths of Glory, Killer's Kiss, The Killing I never get tired of watching

Fantastic video - agree with the shinning rating, however i would put EWS to the S tier. Just as Barry Lyndon is the most beautiful. EWS has the best atmosphere and tention in every scene.

Spartacus and The Shining at the same level ?? :-)

Can't argue with that top 4. No other film maker has come close to putting out 4 consecutive films of such incredible quality and such diversity. None of them are anything alike, except for one thing: they are all stone cold masterpieces.

Totally agree EXCEPT The Shining belongs in that top tier as well.  EWS is difficult for me.  It does belong I. That A tier, but aspects of that film never work for me.  It’s the softcore orgy sequence that has a rather ridiculous (imo) climax with the woman taking punishment for him.  It always sticks out insanely and makes me cringe a little.  I have watched the film 6 or 7 times but it never gels for me there.  There’s just not enough of a sense of danger in the film.  Again… I love it, I do.  I think visually it may be his very best film.  What he does with color is genius.  Does anyone agree?

I've been enjoying your channel. I was wondering if you might be interested in collaborating on a Kubrick video. I have some information about one of his film's that's never been released online. Perhaps, you might be interested. It would make for an entertaining video I'm sure.
